Bluetooth audio lag

Just updated (17th.Oct.2014) to OS X Yosemite. Im having trouble with bluetooth connection. There is an audio lag on my bluetooth headphone which progressively gets worse. Im using Sony DR-BTN 200. Is there a temporary solution until they fix it?

P.S. I found others with similar issues as well. Ive tried re-pairing the connection to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

The storage of the Bluetooth audio values have been changed in Mavericks / Yosemite the defaults are now with a process called “Bluetoothaudiod”, you can change the defaults by using the following example:

Sudo defaults write bluetoothaudiod "Apple Bitpool Min" 50

Please see below all the parameters I have changed, to read the defaults please enter the following command in terminal:

sudo defaults read bluetoothaudiod

enter your password:

MacBook-Pro:~ Ciaran$ sudo defaults read bluetoothaudiod

{

"AAC Bitrate" = 320;

"AAC CBR" = 1;

"Apple Bitpool Max" = 64;

"Apple Bitpool Min" = 50;

"Apple Initial Bitpool" = 50;

"Disable AAC codec" = 0;

"Disable AptX codec" = 0;

"Disable HFP" = 0;

"Enable AptX codec" = 1;

These setting work well with my Bose Soundink OE headphones, please be careful entering the values as they are case sensitive, I really hope this helps some of you out there.

Cheers.

I have fixed the problem. Though I can't believe something like this would fix it, Im now listening to music through my stereos without any disconnection issues, so hopefully this will work for somene out there as well.

Since Im on a desktop mac, Im directly connected to my modem (though I have wi-fi). So what I did was turn on my Wi-fi and disconnect my modem cable from my iMac and then turn on bluetooth. Problem fixed! How something like this could have caused so many problems is beyond me, but hey, it worked. I have also now tested the bluetooth connection with a direct modem connection and it keeps working, so try it out and see if it fixes the problem for you!

Im not using Time Capsule, so can't help, but if you tried removing the ethernet cable and simply used Wi-fi and it didn't work, then sadly I can't help. Im still amazed by the fact that I could get the bluetooth problem fixed by simply not using ethernet and only wifi (though after I got it to work with wifi, it now also works with a direct ethernet connection)

Heres my latest update with the Bluetooth problem.

I did a clean reinstall of Yosemite to wipe any possible conflict from my end of the matter.

The system worked smooth for a few days as I caustially added programs like VLC and didn't use Bluetooth, just plugged-in headphones.

I started to use bluetooth and the lagging problems started again. What's more my memory and CPU problems also started acting up tho I dont know if they're related.
And this was with a clean system i.e. no weird 3rd party applications.

so i erased the harddrive again and did an Internet Recovery process, bringing my late 2012 iMac to Mountain Lion.

I was headed to Mavericks OS and decided to do a quick test of Mountain Lion.

In mountainlion I checked the Activity Monitor and all the processes that were taking up large amounts of memory or CPU usage were gone.

I used iTunes to test the music.

What I noticed was in Mounatin Lion, bluetooth worked.

If I was performing another big process it would clip but it was different kind of sound problem than Yosemite.

While Yosemite, upon these "skips" whether it was the system thinking or a quick break up of connection between comp and external hard drive the sound would skip.

But it would also find its previous place in the song and I suffered no delayed audio just stuttering, which was minimal. Way better than whatever Yosemite was doing. I'd be interested in how bluetooth works. Just before I did a Mountain Lion reinstall, I noticed in the Clean version of Yosemite that upon sound skipping (the point at which the BT headphones would go out of sync and start delay) the headphones could find their proper place again after the skip.

After a delay in audio I would press the pause button and the headphones would "find themselves" again at the last point in the song or video.

Now I'm in Mavericks and I'll try this system. So far i already have 550 mbs dedicated to "kernel task" which is the same as Yosemite. Mountain Lion had no processes this large in the short time I spent with it. I've yet to try Bluetooth with Mavericks but it was definitely a step in the right direction getting out of Yosemite.

My two cents.

Same problem here, bluetooth audio lag happens with my iMac 2011, MacBook Air 2013 and MacBook Pro Retina 2014, all running Yosemite 10.10.1. The audio lag happens when CPU load is high. For example, when I listen to music with iTunes on my MacBook Air and have the audio stream to my bluetooth-connected UE BOOM, by firing up multiple tabs on Google Chrome rapidly, the audio will start to lag a bit. Then by compiling code with Xcode, the audio will lag further. Usually when I pause the music, it continue to play for 5-10 seconds before it stop.

I think we might be able to mitigate this issue by renicing bluetoothaudiod with a higher priority.

In a moment of patience I've made some tests to work with the horrible sound, and yesterday I watched a movie without the problem. Try resetting SMC (PRAM, tried before, doesn't give results) and watched the movie with WiFi-off. I don't know which of the two things worked, but the problem disappeared. I'll try a new test with WiFi-on later, maybe is just the SMC reset the thing to do or viceversa.
