Bluetooth audio lag

Just updated (17th.Oct.2014) to OS X Yosemite. Im having trouble with bluetooth connection. There is an audio lag on my bluetooth headphone which progressively gets worse. Im using Sony DR-BTN 200. Is there a temporary solution until they fix it?

P.S. I found others with similar issues as well. Ive tried re-pairing the connection to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

The storage of the Bluetooth audio values have been changed in Mavericks / Yosemite the defaults are now with a process called “Bluetoothaudiod”, you can change the defaults by using the following example:

Sudo defaults write bluetoothaudiod "Apple Bitpool Min" 50

Please see below all the parameters I have changed, to read the defaults please enter the following command in terminal:

sudo defaults read bluetoothaudiod

enter your password:

MacBook-Pro:~ Ciaran$ sudo defaults read bluetoothaudiod

{

"AAC Bitrate" = 320;

"AAC CBR" = 1;

"Apple Bitpool Max" = 64;

"Apple Bitpool Min" = 50;

"Apple Initial Bitpool" = 50;

"Disable AAC codec" = 0;

"Disable AptX codec" = 0;

"Disable HFP" = 0;

"Enable AptX codec" = 1;

These setting work well with my Bose Soundink OE headphones, please be careful entering the values as they are case sensitive, I really hope this helps some of you out there.

Cheers.

the only solution i have found so far - which is not suitable - is to keep emptying my cache with this program called CleanApp. I'm sure there are similar programs that perform the same function...it seems like the cache builds up much quicker on Yosemite , or something, and when i empty it the problem becomes slightly less intrusive. ill be watching a movie and on the internet and listening to iTunes and things will go wack, if i continously throw out built up cache every 2 hours, the problem (rate of delay) gets better. but not fixed by any means.

i feel sorry for those who use their computer for work how this bluetooth problem will affect them. this is unacceptable.

**waves** 🙂

Having the lag here as well, although I initially thought it was just Amazon Music being silly because that does happen.

And then when I was reading through the thread I realized that the audio QUALITY in my headphones has drastically decreased. I was hearing it and thinking maybe the headphones were going back but then I took them home and connected them to my other iMac that is not updated and the sound was crystal clear again without any crackling or skipping.

I can still deal with it since I am only listening to music when I'm at work but if the quality continues to go downhill I'm going to be SOL because I work in a shared office and I NEED my music but I have to be able to move around a bit.

ETA: I have August EP650 bluetooth headphones and I'm working off a late 2010 iMac here at work. Ya know, I tested on my old iMac but not the new one I just got last month that I did update to Yosemite.

I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH SOMEBODY IN THE APPLE SOFTWARE ENGINEERING CENTER (see below how I got there).

The guy was extremely friendly and said he wasn't aware of the issue so far. We were on the phone for 1 hour, he let me run a diagnostic tool and said he's gonna file a report. He even told me he'd call back if they found a solution.

So, follow my steps to get on the chat and ask them to arrange a call-back date with you.

I mentioned before how to get their attention:

-------

I just had a chat with somebody in the support chat. S/he said s/he'll make a note and I'm getting a call back, too.I think this might get more attention if as many people as possible bug their team.

This is how you do it for free even if you don't have a protection plan:

1. Go to https://getsupport.apple.com/

2. Select your device/problem

3. Select you'd like to chat

4. When prompted, enter your serial number

5. You might either still have a protection, then just go. If not you'll be prompted to pay for the chat.

6. Don't pay, just select "Request and exception."

7. State your case

As I said before in my previous post, I'm also having the same issue occurring on my mid 2011 iMac and mid 2011 MacBook Air. I've had no problems on Mavericks, which lead me to believe it was Yosemite causing this intolerable annoyance. But just to be sure it was Yosemite, I reinstalled Windows 8.1, via bootcamp, on my iMac and with the same headphones I have no issues. The delayed, chopping sound only occurs when I use Yosemite. I really hope Apple fixes this with an update or something soon and doesn't try to blame it old hardware. Somewhere I read that Apple did this on purpose to make you think you need a new computer.

Hi, I've just installed OS X 10.10.1 (14B17) Beta and in my first test seem there isn't audio lag with my bluetooth Boise mini soundlink.

Later further testing...

If you aren't developer and want to test new beta version of Yosemite you can open terminal and digit:

sudo /usr/sbin/softwareupdate --set-catalog https://swscan.apple.com/content/catalogs/others/index-10.10seed-10.10-10.9-moun tainlion-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog.gz

Then open App Store and you find new upgrade...

Bye

Just happened to pull out my very very old iPhone 3GS 16GB that I bought 6,7 years ago, jailbroken with iOS 5.1.1 (if i'm not mistaken) and it works absolutely perfectly with my JBL onbeat awake using bluetooth. It appears to me there is some incompatibility between Apple's latest software and the speaker's firmware. So if you have a similar problem like mine, just pull out an old Apple device if you have one and use it, or wait for the latest fix, or downgrade the operating system (not recommended!)

Had significant bluetooth audio lag on Macbook Pro Late 2008 with BOSE Soundlink Mini. Updated to 10.10.2. After several tests, can confirm that there is no lag anymore (did not notice any occasional lags, as some others mentioned). Audio output is exactly as it should be.

Solid fix, for me at least, but has been late. Would have been better if they fixed in the previous update. So many users were having difficult times, and cursing apple for it.

Glad that the fix is here now.

Try this, although slightly bizarre - make sure you have a wired mouse or graphics tablet and Disconnect all devices on Bluetooth then re-connect your head-phone's or other Bluetooth device. I have the Apple Bluetooth Mouse, Trackpad and Keyboard, and the keyboard is the only device I can keep connected while using the Headphones. Other sequence to try would be re-delete Bluetooth.plist, then reboot and the afore-mentioned.

Hope this helps.

Tim

I've double checked it with my BT headset. When the wireless mouse and trackpad are connected the problem appears. The lag is so bad that can hardly hear the sound. I've also checked it with my Logitech BT adapter, and the problem appears, but in minor scale.

A friend of mine with exactly the same hardware and BT peripherals, but with Mavericks has no problem.

I hope that Apple will help us on this.
