com.apple.geod process is not responding

I noticed in activity monitor under the CPU section that com.apple.geod is not responding and does not after a reboot either.

What is this process for and what is not working at this point?

Thx

Best of luck, Richard. Post if you receive any satisfaction from Apple. My iMac is a late 2012, so it is not very old at all.

I failed to mention that I also went the route of disconnecting all third party devices from it, which were my iOmega external HD that I use as my Time Machine, a Belkin 2.0 USB hub, Bose speakers, and the Ethernet cable. Only think connected to it was my Apple Extended Keyboard. I bought a brand new G Drive USB external HD from the Apple Store (as they recommended) to replace my iOmega external HD. The iOmega is also a 2012. They decided not to transfer anything over to the new external because they "just don't think it's the problem." I also bought a new HooToo 3.0 USB hub to run from it after it was "fixed." More money down the drain. I've also been advised to start up in Safe Mode, then restart back to my normal desktop. Oh the hoops I've jumped through!

Let me also share that each time the unexpected shutdowns/restarts occur, I told AppleCare that I usually had iTunes, Calendar, iMessage, and Mail active in the Dock. They felt my machine, with 8GB of memory, should be able to handle that. Indeed.

I've been in direct contact with Apple 13 times since January 30, 2015, including taking it in to the Genius Bar for a clean install.

Keep us posted!

I had 10.2.2 on my 2009 iMac and had no problems with shutting down (although it did slow the system down). I feel your pain on all of the hoops you've jumped through. However, here's my take. Everything worked just fine with my old Mac. Now, after spending three grand on a "souped up" one (extra memory, faster processor, larger drive), I've got these issues. Every time this thing dies, it generates a trouble report that I send to Apple and I expect them to resolve the issue based on the data reported. I paid a boat load of money to be able to press the button and move on to using the computer as a tool instead of having to become an IT nerd (nothing against nerds - they're usually rich!).

My plan is extremely simple - they fix the problem or I return the iMac, revert to my old one and buy another one when they finally get this thing worked out. That might get their attention. In case this sounds like over reaction to you, I had this thing restart right smack dab in the middle of a business webinar I was conducting, disconnecting a dozen or so folks. I simply cannot afford problems like that.

Might be a god idea to start a separate three on this topic - I'll bet we'll find that there are more of us with this issue.

Thanks!

Can anyone else also confirm that it's been fixed?

If this is fixed, then I see there's still complains about Finder and Preview crashing.

Maybe I'll do a clean install when 10.10.4 comes out. I'm using 10.9.5 with my rMBP13. It's amazing how long they took to fix the bugs. Well, not really that surprising given how many new things (iOS related) they want to throw in to OSX. Sorry, but I'll probably never use an iPhone.
