new x yosemite doesn't support airport utilities.....

AirPort Utility is already built into Yosemite. What version of AirPort Utility are you asking about here?

time capsule doesn't work.....

You mean to say that the Time Capsule won't power up?

If not, then what exactly doesn't work? We will need to rely on your description for details, since our crystal ball is broken and we cannot see your network.

I had problems with my time capsule not backing up just like many of you after installing the latest major update. I called Apple Customer Support and the tech was able to walk me through the process that fixed the issue. I am sorry but I cannot explain what he had me do to fix it. Obviously this is a widespread issue and I expected Apple to send out an update but have not seen it yet. I would suggest calling their support as it worked for me.

I've gone through a couple fixes with Apple support, but the problem continues to occur. It does seem to have improved a bit during the past week or so (and I made no changes, so I have no idea why). Time Machine is backing up more often than it was before, but they are still not hourly. I can live with it the way it is, and hope that they'll resolve this in future updates.

Well you will have to forgive me for being wrong. I just checked my latest backup and it was at 10:06 am. It is now 3:24pm MST. That being the case my so called fix with the Apple Tech was short lived. I will have to start watching it to assure that it is backing up at least daily. They must be aware of this issue since it has impacted so many people. We can only hope that the software fix is coming soon. Sorry to have mislead you.

No apology needed. That's pretty much what happened to me. The "fix" worked for about a day, maybe not even quite that long, and then Time Machine started skipping back-ups. But it is better than it was, so I'm reluctant to contact Apple support again, because it is time-consuming and I don't want to make things worse. I have gotten in the habit of clicking on the Time Machine icon in my menubar and if I don't see a recent backup listed, I initiate one. It's not exactly convenient, but it's not really a hardship, either.

I have done all that you have done and don't wish to spend any more time on the phone with support. I do find that I often have to request "Back Up Now" more than once for the program to find the backup disk. The whole purpose of the Time Capsule is to have continual backups to insure that if a failure occurs you have your information stored. With it being so important I find it frustrating that Apple is not getting it fixed or letting us know that it is a top priority. Another issue that I now have with Yosemite is that my iPhone6 will not compress my music without failure so the 128 GB phone I bought for additional mobil music is basically a 64 GB. I have spent hours on the phone with them trying to determine the problem without success. They said it must be a corrupt song in my file. I gave up but I let them know I was not happy with their failure to fix the problem as my iPad Air2 128 GB works fine and loads over 22,000 songs quickly. They didn't want to talk about that though.

I share your frustration, especially since this problem has been around a while and there is still not a fix, at least not one that is resolving the issue for everyone. As you said, the whole idea of Time Capsule and Time Machine is to make backups seamless and effortless, so it's doubly annoying when they aren't working properly.

I'm also very interested in the issue you're having with music on your iPhone 6. I have not had a problem getting the songs to sync, but the album cover artwork is missing, except for iTunes purchases and a few random tracks that I imported from CDs. I've tried various solutions suggested by other users, many of whom have spoken with Apple support, but nothing has worked for me so far. It's not a critical issue, but it's something that needs to be fixed. (I realize that this is off-topic, but wanted to reply to what you wrote without starting a new thread).

I am not familiar with the protocols in the support communities but noticed

one participant state to someone that a new thread should have been started

for that request. You have seen my name so gmail me. I do not wish to

speak on an open forum about my library. Let me warn you though that I am

not a computer geek and the answer that I have for you will be a laborious

fix if you have much music.

Well Phil M2, today I noticed that artwork is disappearing from my devices including my iMac. Those other devices are an iPad2, iPod7 (I think newest is 7), iPad Air2 and iPhone6. Didn't want to but decided I wanted to know if they would admit there is a problem and called it in to Apple Support. Mike in Tier I could not help me and put me on a very long hold while talking to someone in Tier II. Tier II told Mike that I had to call the Tier II person in Texas who I had talked to for hours before on not being able to sync my iPhone6 songs at 128 kbps. They told Mike that the artwork missing sounds like the same syncing problem I had with my phone. His name is Ray who basically told me on the last call that the only reason I could not sync my songs compressed on my i6 was because I have a corrupt song. I told him that my Air2 does it just fine so why would the i6 not? Ray in Texas would not continue to help me. I just called Ray back and left a voice message with the case number and told him that someone above Tier II told me to tell him that these problems are related and he should get back into it. So I have already wasted an hour and a half and gotten no where. I did ask Mike if he had heard anything about the time machine/capsule problems and he said his department does not get into "data" and that I would need to call Apple Tech and choose Time Capsule in the menu to find out if they are working on it. Maybe Monday or Tuesday I'll call them on that. While typing this my Time Capsule backup failed and I'm guessing that Ray in Texas is done for the week since it is 3:11 pm here and he is an hour ahead of me. I'll let you know if I get anywhere next. All of my devices seem to have some major problems and I was planning to buy the iWatch. Maybe I should reconsider that.

Hi All,

The method pasted below works for me...

It might work for you too...?

Hi, I think I might have found a workaround...

Open System Preferences and add Airport Utility to your User & Groups / Login Items. I opted to hide the app by clicking the box next to it on the left.

Reboot the Macbook and/or applicable unit...

Allow the system to boot up and log in.

You will see Airport Utility open and sit in the Dock... You will also notice that, if you click on it periodically, it continues to remember the networked TC and therefore when TM asks to connect, everything is in place.

Thus far today, since doing the above, my TM's have worked as expected...

I know this is not ideal, but it gives us a temporary workaround whilst Apple sort a fix. And yes, I have reported this to my Case Engineer.

In short, it is Airport Utility's inability to remember the TC/TM that is breaking TM.

I'm getting a call from Apple tomorrow with my Data Capture results and hopefully advice on how to fix permanently... Will report back if and when.

Jan 15, 2015 2:45 PM in response to RáNdÓm GéÉzÁ

Apple have been in touch and I am currently running with a fault free TC/TM back up, which is working as it was supposed to do in the first instance. They have yet to explain to me what the issue was/is... But they did supply a Terminal command and that seems to have done the trick.

Before applying the command I removed AU from Login Items, Users & Groups, System Preferences, which was part of my workaround. I would suggest you do the same if you have tried that workaround.

Reboot your machine and open Terminal.

((Before you apply this command, I will stress that I cannot and will not accept any responsibility if this does not work for you))

Apply this command: sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.backupd-auto.plist

Terminal will ask for your admin password. Enter it as per...

Terminal will either accept the command or it will report that the process is already in use.

Either/or, reboot your machine and everything permitting you should have a working TC/TM and Airport Utility should be stable again.

It is early stages testing for me. But I have rebooted a few times, and messed around as I normally would do and thus far there have been no concerning issues with TC/TM or AU.

It might be worth a shot. But do back up your system, prior to proceeding, if you are unsure of Terminal and the sudo commands.

Good luck.

Jan 15, 2015 7:07 PM in response to RáNdÓm GéÉzÁ

Apply this command: sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.backupd-auto.plist

This command starts and loads the Time Machine backup daemon, and (-w) adds it permanently to the boot sequence. I don't why it should work, it should be already there since begining, actually my Time Machine backup starts hourly with no issue, just most of time it couldn't find Time Capsule.

com.apple.backupd-auto.plist is Time Machine backup preference, it should be loaded by OSX by default. For those who haven't applied this command, you may check if the daemon exists:

sudo launchctl list | grep backupd

A little bit lost.

Jan 15, 2015 10:52 PM in response to s2s

Maybe something gets lost in translation, so to speak, on older setups. I wonder if the one thing us sufferers have had in common is, the machines Yosemite went on and the ones plagued by the AU/TM inconsistency are older than 2014... On my new setup, on a different 2014 MBP - TM/AU works perfectly out of the box. However on two older 2009 MBPs it didn't. One of which was my flatmate's and it was configured by him... So it could not have been user influenced...?

Just a thought...

Jan 16, 2015 7:22 AM in response to RáNdÓm GéÉzÁ

I doubt it but I still tried this command. Unfortunately as I thought, it didn't / shouldn't work, this command is just to re-set a scheduled daemon like a cronjob, it only makes sure Time Machine is executed hourly, but it can't fix the real problem that Time Machine can NOT find Time Capsule.

So after applied this command and checked again 10 hours later, my Time Machine hourly backup is still failed, AirPort Utility still shows yellow triangle.
