That worked for me...
Safari .plist file. Preferences can become corrupted.
1) Close Safari
2) Deleted:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
I actually deleted all ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari***
3) Relaunch Safari
But the problem is general not only in Safari. I don't know why Apple is not giving attention to this.
Yes!!! This did it... I reset my MacBook Pro’s System Management Controller for 10 seconds or so... I have been trying for months to find a cure...
I also turned iCloud off and unchecked Air Drop.... Thanks......
Thank you!!! Deleting the wifi network and re-adding it fixed it for me too. Turning of bluetooth made no difference (and is problematic with a Macbook Air!), nor did turning off iCloud or drop box, or deleting the browser history. Went from 5Mbps to 50 just like that. THANK YOU!
I upgraded to Yosemite only this month (March) thinking all the bugs would have been fumagated by then. Safari worked really well for the first two weeks and then today it became so sluggish as to be unusable. So after messing around a bit I changed the internet connection in the Networks panel in Systems Preferences from 'Airport' to 'Ethernet'. And hey presto, Safari is now working faster than ever. The problem seems to be the interface between the software and Apple's routers. So if you have ethernet, switching to it will solve the problem.
OMG that totally helped tons
Did the same, went from 0.7 to 7Mbps at best, to 95Mbps constant, ping down from 20 to 7 on the 5GHZ wifi, 10 meters from router, channel 160.... 2.4GHZ network came in at constant 54Mbps (1-2Mbps at best previously), channel 6 (only weak overlap from neighbouring wifi setups). Line is rated at 200Mbps, so not bad at all over wifi.
Turn off i-cloud drive, what ever that strange piece of bloatware does that apple installed for me without my permission. +1 for Dropbox.
Macbook Pro Retina, Late 2013.
I had the same issue after updating just yesterday. I cleared entire web history and now it's sped up. I don't think it's quite where it used to be, but the speed has definitely improved for now.
I also have this issue. And nothing helps. Neither using assistant. Nor clearing browsing history. And it is especially slow when Mac is in "sleep" or "shut down"...getting the internet to start takes very long...at least 3-4 attempts before the page finally loads.
I thought Yosemite was being described as world's most powerful OS!
Can I go back to Maverick?
Thank you. Bluetooth of is magical for me!
