why is iCloud drive not showing all my folders?

Greetings and Salutations,

Upgraded everything to ios8 on the iPad, and to Yosemite on the iMac and Macbook Pro. I bought 200gb of iCloud Drive storage and then moved what was on an external drive to the iCloud drive on my iMac. No problem. Then I go to the Macbook Pro, open the iCloud Drive and what do you know? Only about half of the folders and documents are showing up! Same thing on the is iPhone 6 and the iPad 2 with iOS 8.

Anyone else having this issue with iCloud Drive not syncing correctly? Appreciate the help!

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), iOS 8.0.2

I'm having the same problem it seems.

I see folders on iCloud drive on iPad, but do not see them on iCloud Drive folder on my mac. I only see apple work folders on mac iCloud Drive. I see a different set of folders to both on www.icloud.com. Folders are not matching / syncing.

I tried copying a file or two outside of any folder on to the Drive folder on my Mac - they turned up (outside of any folder) across app iDevices, including iCloud.com. If I keep doing that outside of folders - things will get messy quickly! And I don't want to create folders on Mac Drive that basically duplicate folders already appearing on iPad.

Like most other people are thinking here - I suppose Apple servers are not ready yet. Annoying.

I might turn off / on Drive across everything to see what happens... or maybe not - terribly time consuming...

Looks like now I can delete a folder from iCloud drive on my iMac, but then I go to iCloud.com and check the drive and the folders I deleted are showing up. then I go to delete the folders and iCloud.com tells me there is a problem deleting them. Weird part is, prior to this test, I created a Word document and saved it to the iCloud Drive on the iMac and it showed up on iCloud.com with no issue. When I checked my iPhone 6 for the document, it wasn't there and the folders aren't either...

Hopefully Apple will get this fixed sooner rather than later. For now I suppose the only option is to stick with two external hard drives, one for Ops and one for Backup...

My understanding – after tons of experimentation – is as follows:

  • iCloud Drive on iOS devices shows all folders and files
  • iCloud Drive on the Web shows almost all folders and files, but not quite***
  • iCloud Drive in the Mac OS finder shows everything from iCloud on the web MINUS any folders that are empty

The last point means that if you add a file to an empty iCloud Drive folder it will then show up in the finder.

***However, some folders that ARE ON iCloud drive and contain documents, still will not show up on the web or in the Finder. In my case this is the Goodreader folder. It works fine on iOS, but is not there on iCloud.com or in the finder. If I dig through some terminal commands I can find the folder – it's there inside the /Library/Mobile Documents folder, but Finder will not show it directly.

iCloud Drive on iOS devices just ***** because there is no iCloud Drive app like Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. I have to use other apps with iCloud Drive support like Documents 5 but this app also does not show all my iCloud Conent. Hope that Apple is working on a native app.

iCloud.com and iCloud Drive on Windows work fine for me but sometimes its very slow updating the files. (And sometimes it doesn't)

On Yosemite I only have the pages folder in iCloud Drive and none of my other ones (e.g. school folder with pdf files in) and I don't find them on the system.

I just don't understand why it does not work anymore. I have Yosemite installed since the first beta (develover programm) and iCloud drive worked fine all time. But since the release of the GM RC candidate and die final version of Yosemite, iCloud Drive is just broken.

Not sure where you're seing this?

I coppied 430gig into my new 500gig iCloud Drive via Finder on an iMac running 10.10, it took 8 hours to copy the files.

However to my surprize all that copying was just to a duplicate folder on my local hard drive.

I went from having 550 gig available on my 1tb drive to less than 60gig.

So iCloud drive is definately creating a local copy, pretty useless if I just want an online backup of my files but can not delete the local version (copy) on my hard drive. So apple make me buy a huge disk and they double me up by charging me a further £84 per year for 500gig iCloud storrage.

The major issue.. and this is a major issue is that my iCloud has only coppied less than 1gig to the cloud!!!???

***... I have absolutely no network activity... I have a 20-30mbps internet connection so it's not that.

When I log into iCloud I see all the top level folders but there are no actual files contained within them... no photo's at least.

Perhaps Apple have a major problem with their bandwitdh but whats strange is that I was able to copy one partigular folder with 8gig separately it seemed to work... but very hit and miss... not what you want when backing up VIP files... didn't Apple get this... why release a substandard product or is that what we've come to expect now from Apple. I'd bet if Jobs were alive he'd be hitting the roof... perhaps he was a power hungrey single minded individual but he had a vision.. Regretably Apple these days seems a lot more like how they were trying to portray Microsoft back in the 1980's. Doesn't the Apple grey and Microsoft colours seem to have reversed? Perhaps it was envy Jobs felt all those years ago... http://youtu.be/8UZV7PDt8Lw I went into an Apple store in Kingston yesterday and it packed... rammed full and the guy said it wasn't even busy. I think Apple is for the ordinary person who doesn't understand much about IT and therefore uses only a fraction of Apple services.

Certianly iCloud Drive should be labled BETA and they shouldn't be charging for it.

Incidentally the chap said that thge Photo App (Beta) was coming out this Monday 20th Oct... perhaps this'll work...

I'm getting really tempted to start to look out side Apple for "enterprise" solutions... just use Apple for the hardware and pretty OS.

Well, a bit off topic.... perhaps they'll iron out the creases soon.

I wish it would work in the way it should... I guess Apple's bandwidth couldn't cope with millions of users sending gig's of data up and down.

Maybe thats why Dropbox might be better... they made a business solely of this.

Why am I so stupidly hooked on that shinny silver Apple?!

Microsoft should relase a new OS called Orange!

All I know is that iCloud is Bananas!

8.1 tomorrow? I'll clear my desk for yet more time-sapping fiddling about. I have an interesting option that, for fun, I did a while ago (well before Yosemite). It involves a simple Terminal command (you all have this app on your Macs). After launching the command, I have a folder that syncs all files from iCloud, whether generated from iPad, iPhone, or Mac. You can drag and drop them, just like DropBox. If the example is working re link below - why can't Apple get the files synced in the iCloud Drive folder from the finder from the get-go? I use the folder just to view files really - but it's useful as a check.

No - that will NOT fix the bug - it was just an experiment to see iCloud files way before Yosemite appeared for general public - just interesting thats all. My suggestion is just to wait out - Apple is aware of these things (we hope!) - we are just the cannon fodder early adopters!

why is iCloud drive not showing all my folders?
