Airdrop not working between my iMac 2010 running Yosemite and iPad Air STILL!

My iMac (i7 2.93GHz 16GB RAM) is using Bluetooth 4.3 and is hooked up to the same 802.11n 104Mbps wifi network as my iPad Air running iOS8.

Airdrop STILL doesn't work between iMac and iOS8, despite the much-trumpeted new Yosemite feature.

I've been waiting for an easy way to get files on and off my iOS devices for ages, and feel severely let down.

Anyone able to explain this for me before I get too disillusioned with Apple's forced hardware upgrade policy?

The iMac is mid 2010, so supposedly can't use the feature, but why? If there is no technical reason why I can't share files using Airdrop, then this absolutely 5ucks!

I feel your pain. PJLethal:I would have no issue upgrading if apple still SOLD two things i need. 1. 17 inch macbook pro (they are making phones larger and computers smaller?) 2. A NON GLOSSY screen. I can't even use the retina because of the glare at work. You know why apple uses matte screens on their store walls? Glare. So...they understand. Just don't care. Retina is useless to me with glass on the outside.
