Yosemite Mail is unable to list search results.
I search for an email address and nothing happens, although it says 90 messages found, keeping the same Inbox list as before. Any suggestions? Is this a bug?

Tried also Mailbox -> rebuild but does not work for me

My 'Search' does not work in Yosemite Apple Mail either. What I've done as a go-around is to:
Go to 'System Preferences': 'Spotlight'
Move 'Mail and Messages' to the top of the list in 'Search Results'
Uncheck all the other categories in the list to see how well this works.
Then go to Spotlight Search on your desktop at the top right hand corner of your screen and put in your query as you would in Mail.
It works as the Search feature in Mail should work.
At least now I can find things in my 30,000 emails.
Same here with all of the above ...
I Am so annoyed that I updated now to Yosemite...
on top of the issues above .. I can scroll back through years of emails, when I see one I want to look at, I can click on the email but the content is not displayed ? Anyone else have this problem ?
I also tried everything listed here. Nothing worked for more than a few hours.
I did come across something that looks very promising. Only been half a day but Mail is running quicker than it even has since the upgrade. And all the search and smart folder issues have been fixed. What you need to do is delete the container that mail is in (this is different than deleting all the envelope files). Here is an article that tells you how to do this. Scroll to the bottom.

Regarding search in Mail: I solved the problem by rebuilding each mailbox manually using the item provided in the "Mailbox" menu.
Regarding the broken search function of the finder: I am still investigating it, but in the meantime killing the mds_store process does the trick for a while.
(Yosemite 10.10.1)
Tried rebuild every inbox
Tried delete the three index files in library
Tried reindex my whole computer. (add Mac HD to spotlight privacy and later delete it)
Tried delete accounts and add them again
Tied time machine.
Still, the Mail won't search anything. Also, the 'Flagged' inbox won't show flagged emails which can now only be seen by browsing through all mails.
What is going on here?
My Mailboxes would not search properly either. I have 4 Gmail Accounts, 3 Pop3 email accounts and 2 Exchange Server email accounts on my iMac with Yosemite. All worked fine before I upgraded.
Before I tried any of what I thought were more advanced changes in some of these threads above, I found this solution elsewhere on the web. Once I did this, all my email searches came back to normal.
1: On the Email Menu, Go to Mail Preferences > then click on the Advanced Tab.
2: For every email account listed, uncheck the first checkbox titled: "Automatically detect and maintain account settings"
3: Close Email, then Open Email again.
After I re-indexed my HD, email search still would find no results. Doing the 3 steps above now results in normal email searches.
Hope this helps some others with this issue.
I bought a New MacBook Pro last week. Set it up from scratch. didn't transfer any files from my old computer. (Mail was working perfectly on the other computer BTW on Yosemite 10.10.2) Mail will not show any results on search or smart mailboxes. I tried all the tips here and nothing.. So I deleted everything and started again from scratch and it didn't fix anything. I can search email messages using spotlight but search in the mail app just doesn't want to work. I also installed Yosemite from scratch on the old MacBook Pro and have the same problem... Updated the new one to 10.10.2 and the problem persists... Very frustrating...

That didn't work either for me. 😢
1: On the Email Menu, Go to Mail Preferences > then click on the Advanced Tab.
2: For every email account listed, uncheck the first checkbox titled: "Automatically detect and maintain account settings"
3: Close Email, then Open Email again.
None of the suggestions - rebuilding mailboxes, trashing envelopes, etc work for me since upgrading from 10.8.5. Just uploaded 10/10.2, still no search in mail or for that matter any emails in searchlight. Yosemite is a big piece of crap, the worst OS Aplle has ever created in my opinion. As soon as I can have the time, I will reformat my fusion drive in my IMac 27 and install 10.8 again...my macbook air works perfectly with ML...thank god I did not upgrade it!
Similar problem. Persists on both OS X and iOS. Updated both this week to most current and latest updates. Mail search on both is a disaster. Does not find emails I know are there and can find via other means. Have rebuilt, etc etc. Still search results are so unreliable.
Apple: Are you listening?
Finally I'm able to identify my problem after reinstall Yosemite four time in one day.
The reason I can't search in Mail application was caused by this app 'RAR-Extract by Enolsoft'. Every time I install this app, my mail won't search.
Hope this could help someone as desperate as I was.
Found solution in other thread author is ( eevokozm ) : This worked for me: sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.appsandbox UnrestrictSpotlightContainerScope -bool true
tried it. I did improve searchlight searches for mail, but still cannot get results in mail. It does recognize the name I enter and has the to, from, subject choices, but no results.
My only option is to revert to Mountain Lion...I now must search hoe to do that!
THAT DID IT!!!! THANKS!!!!
