  1. You must have a fully bootable Mavericks system from which to boot the computer. You can then erase the volume with Yosemite, then clone the Mavericks system to the empty volume you just erased.
  2. You can erase the drive and reinstall Mavericks if you have a USB Mavericks installer flash drive.
  3. You can boot the computer via Internet Recovery and reinstall the original version of OS X that came with the computer. This is only feasible on models from 2011 to the present.

Certainly good advise, but after four months it's hard to imagine it still applies. Beside which, he's probably the three hundredth person to highjack the OP's discussion.

I have Microsoft Office that I purchased & downloaded from Amazon. Will this be affected (ie removed) if I restore the original version of OS X on my MacBook in order to get rid of Yosemite?

As long as you don't erase the drive first, all third party software and user data should remain untouched. Office 2011 has worked perfectly after two Recover HD re-installs for me.

Hi Allan, I'm in agreement with Kappy, I only upgraded yesterday (16 Feb.). It has slowed down ALL my programs, especially Photoshop which ran beautifully - until yesterday. Everything is s-l-o-w, Google takes forever to respond and I get pop ups constantly that I never had to deal with before. The appearance isn't all that much either and considering Yosemite is an "upgrade", I feel quite let down by the whole matter.

Any suggestions? I'm going to go to the Apple store and have them restore my MacBook Air to Maverick, the advice given on the forum is too complicated for me. Maverick was fast, efficient and a superb program.

Thanks for reading this,

Zin

Kappy wasn't recommending that you downgrade, only telling you how.

Please give your system 24 hours or so to get everything in order. There are many databases that must be rebuilt from scratch, so the first day or so is always that way. Spend it making sure you have the latest Yosemite versions of all third party software as many users have found Yosemite to have higher standards.

Although you will find a lot of complaints and reasons for going back, a large majority of users are not experiencing your issues today.

Hi all,

I installed Yosemite on my my iMac (mid 2011) and it is running slower. I upgraded because of the faster reviews for Safari. So far, I haven't been too impressed. The main reason why I want to downgrade is because of a graphics issue. When I scroll down, the image becomes unstable as if it can't handle the rendering of the page. I see this in Mac Apps, and it files and folders when I open them. It wasn't like this before and I don't really appreciate it.

I have time machine backup with the last backup made 10 days before I upgraded so my question is this:

Can I use Time Machine (from Maverick) to connect to my iMac (Yosemite) and revert my iMac to the version I had 10 days ago?

Thank you for your help.

I like this question, I only upgraded on the 16th of Feb and did a total Time Machine backup on the 15t so I'll be watching for an answer, too. But I have taken on board what MadMacs0 said about giving it a day or two to settle down. But if it keeps acting like a bad puppy, it's going back to the pet shop! So thanks for keeping this question on the table until some answers are found.

I actually gave it a couple of days and on the 2nd day the graphics problem cleared up and the whole display seems to be sharper and faster. I will give it a few more days and see how everything else works. I am still a little suspect but the update has bought itself more time. I would still like an answer to my question in case I still would like to revert to Maverick.

I am still struggling + now I get pop-ups all over Safari and have to FORCE QUIT to dump these pages, even though I have pop-up blocker turned on! It is most annoying and I'm going to take my MacBook Air to the Apple Store and have them figure it out if it isn't sorted out by next Monday. My work output has been diminished by 70% because my Photoshop and InDesign programs run so bloody slow! Keep me posted on your progress Veritech99!

Best wishes,

Zin
