How can I uninstall OS X Yosemite and return to OS X Mavericks?
then it is time to restore your backup.
I just installed Yosemite thinking it would upgrade my numbers. Now I can't open anything or even a blank numbers doc. What do I have to do?
Restore from your backup before your installed Yosemite. You do need to erase your hard drive - you cannot install an older version over a newer version.
FWIW, the OS does not upgrade the Numbers app - that is a separate app.

No, applications that were formerly part of iWorks must be separately updated. Just open either the App Store from your menu. If it doesn't show up in the Software Update tab, check the Purchases tab and click the Update button.
I am soon going to get a Mac Mini 2014 Mid Tier. Since it comes installed with Yosemite. I have seen Mountain Lion and Mavericks and they look far superior to Yosemite. If I buy a code of Mountain Lion, how would I go from Yosemite and use the code? Thanks.
You can't. A Mac is not capably of running any version of OS X then the one it shipped with originally.
You can't install an OS version older than the one it shipped with, so if it shipped with Yosemite pre-installed, it will NEVER run anything but Yosemite or later.
The only possibility would be to buy a refurbished unit from the Apple online store and it would need to have come with ML installed originally. I recently purchased a refurb iMac exactly for that reason: I needed one that will boot with ML - and I was ready with a full installer tucked away as I thought it may have Mavericks or Yosemite installed and I was ready to erase and reinstall (after having checked to make sure that it originally was ML) - but, I got lucky: this one actually had ML installed. Here is a list of build/OS version numbers you can consult if you're interested:
Thank you, Kappy!!!
If I erase the drive and reinstall Mavericks from a USB Mavericks installer flash drive and then use my time machine backup (which was created on the Yosemite version of my mac) will it just revert to Yosemite? Or stay on Mavericks with my data present and correct?
Cheers

Yes, it will re-install Yosemite if you restore the entire backup. You can probably restore just your User folder that way, though.
You might be able to use Migration Assistant to restore everything except the system, but it probably will not allow that when migrating from a newer OS X version.
Additionally, it may not work well as some things might have changed/updated and imposing them onto an older OS may cause some unintended results.
Have you fixed your problem? I used to play scrabble there too - loved it! I don't play there now, I play in Facebook. There's scrabble and also Wordosaur Crossword Game.
Have you tried emailing the scrabble people and asking them the same Q?
Good luck
TTeddyau, You might be replying in the wrong forum. If your question is about not being able to play Words With Friends on Facebook, it works great in Firefox, and 'never' crashes there. WWF only crashes in the Mac designed browser Safari.
Wasn't my question but I'm thinking the same thing - My mid 09' has been nothing but screwed since Yosemite. I have a black or cloudy looking screen at log in and the fun goes from there. Then there is this piece of junk known as photos which takes forever to load and half the source list is missing which makes file manipulation a real joy!
