OS X Yosemite - Kernel panic

I am using Macbook Pro - Retina(2012).

Today, I have tried to upgrade Mac OS to OS X Yosemite. After finishing download and it started installation.

Somehow, Computer shut downed automatically.

I have tried to boot after pushing the power button.

The Macbook displays these several times and gone.

Your computer restarted because of ~~

and then

panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffffff....)

It is not booting any more and still have same messages.

My head is going to panic.

Can anyone help me to fix this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Identical issue here. I started Yosemite upgrade, my Mac Pro restarted but now kernel panics repeatedly on boot. Disk and disk permission repairs haven't fixed it. I can't even boot it into safe mode without this same kernel panic! Was running fine until I attempted the upgrade!

panic(cpu 2 caller 0x...): "Process 1 exec of /sbin/launchd failed, errno 2"@...

Debugger called: <panic>

I've tried everything now. Clean install, reinstall, nothing attached, no third part softwares. Nothin works. I have MacBook retina 2013 And I'm totally sure that there's nothing wrong with my hardware. I've never experienced such a crappy behavior on my Mac before. This new Yosemite totally ruins all my expectations for the Apple products.

Hi Folks,

Same problem here...

My situation:

Mac OS X 10.9.5

MacBook Pro (2.2 GhHz Intel Core i7)

Downloaded upgrade and after first restart the same error message, first line of error:

panic(cpu 6 caller 0xffffff800dbce524): "Process 1 exec of /sbin/launchd failed, errno2"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2422.115.4/bsd/kern/kern_exec.c:3836

...

Please note: the only thing that jumps to mind is the fact that i changed my HDD to a SSD oh and I use the native apple disk encryption.

Hope there's an answer out there 🙂

Grtz,

Raymon

I had the same problem with my Mid 2007 iMac. I tried everything from making a bootable USB to verify and repair disc and any other suggestion. I would get constant computer shut downs...totally random. Checking the system logs it was showing something that it was searching for files in eBooks and could not find files. Guess it gets stuck in some sort of loop looking for something until it finally shuts down. I got so frustrated trying all sorts of things that I erased my hard drive and went back to Mavericks via my Time Machine backup. Working like a champ! I was blaming the fact that this is the oldest iMac that can take the upgrade, but maybe it really can't! I'll be sticking with Mavericks.

And it keeps crashing... After clean install through Apple server.

Duplicate post from another thread but the issues are consistent. Newest 15" rMBP (stock, 6 weeks old) and the Yosemite upgrade bricks the machine. If I can get the install routine to run at all it does a loop of kernel panics and restarts multiple times then ending with the prohibitory symbol. Doesn't matter when I've tried to upgrade from Mavericks or if I do a clean install from a USB drive or even the internet recovery. The one time it installed to the SSD it appeared to be fine but upon first reboot it went straight back to the prohibitory symbol.

The ONLY way it'll run Yosemite is straight from a USB 3.0 flash drive or SD card instead of the SSD. Apple Store has verified this twice now and on both occasions told me to just restore from my Mavericks time machine backup and sit tight. Based on the numerous reports of this same issue with other MBPs I'd say Apple didn't QA the firmware or drivers or something very well. Genius Bar folks told me they're getting these reports in a lot.

I update from Maverick.

During installation the machine going to Kernel Panic.

I restart machine with CMD-R and make disk test, it's ok. I running reinstall, after a lot of time I make login and post installation start, but don't finish. Post installation go in loop. So I restart again with CMD-R, I move my $HOME from /Users/my_home to /Users/my_home.save, and restart post installation.

Now it's go finish.

I make a new administrator account, login with new administrator, In the /Users I delete the new home directory and restore to move my_home.save to the my_home.

Now all works fine.

So, my solution to this, which may not be relevant to some/most, but involves the removal of unnecessary PGP Encryption software...

1) Booted in verbose mode (CMD+V)

2) Noticed on the screen that it was getting hung up just after mentions of a PGP Drive Encryption driver. (It's an ex-work laptop that used to have encrypted drives, but I saw an end to that a while back, so my disks aren't actually encrypted anymore)

3) Rebooted into recovery mode (CMD+R)

4) Opened a Terminal window from the Utilities menu, and then followed these steps to remove PGP entirely from the system. NOTE the warning at the top of this page - don't remove PGP if your disk is still encrypted!!! Skip the killall commands, they're not relevant in this scenario.

Note also that you'll need to mount the HD volume first, or add '/volumes/<volume name>' at the front of each of those paths, e.g. Mine was '/volumes/Mac HD/'

http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/display/istcontrib/Manually+Removing+PGP+Desktop+fr om+Mac+OS+X

I found *most* of those files still existed on my Mac so I removed them, but a few in that list were missing, so I just skipped over them.

5) Reboot. And voila! I was back into the installation process, finishing my migration and then taken to the MacOS X login screen. Fixed!

Hope that helps one of you out there. I've been battling with this for over a week now, so glad to finally find a fix :-)

Installing Yosemite on Mid 2010 MBP. Same kernel panic when the installer restarts.

At least you can get your machine back by booting your current system, rather than the installer upgrade:

- Hold down the power button until everything stops

- Press the power button and immediately hold down the option key. Keep holding the option key.

- Get a list of hard disks

- click the up arrow under "Macintosh Hard Disk"

A regular startup will try to launch the installer partition which kernel panics. This way you can keep using your mac.

We do need to figure out how to fix the installer partition so our machines will boot normally again.

I got same kind of kernel panic problem. After Yosemite upgrade my Mid-2011 MacBookPro run nicely for few days and after that rebooted on it's own and kept giving Kernel Panic error and rebooting automatically. Restored from Time machine and the macbook run again nicely for few days. Yet again today got the Kernel panic and reboot loop. After some tinkering maybe got the problem fixed by following steps:

1. Boot to safe mode

2. Remove Avatron Air Display (Applications -> Utilities -> Uninstall Avatron AirDisplay)

3. Reboot

Do you have Avatron AirDisplay installed? Try booting to Safe mode and see if it shows you the report of latest kernel panic and the failing kernel extension there.
