mac mail not showing jpg attachments after yosemite install

I use Mac Mail and have recently upgraded to Yosemite.

Since upgrading I can no longer view jpg images sent by email from my security camera system. They used to be shown within the message, but since the upgrade to Yosemite they're not shown in the message anymore (well, they are shown in about 1% of messages), even the attachment won't open after saving to desktop.

When I try opening the attachment after I have saved it, it says it may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognize.

I can view these images when using outlook on my mac, but preferred the Mail app, as it was easier to view the images in Mail.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

same issue for me. Yosemite, Mac Mail. Sent from one yosemite mac to another, pics show up, whether "pasted" (cmd-v) or "attached" thru finder.

however a friend on a PC, all his pics are little question marks.

when I double-click on the question mark, they do open in Preview. but .... WHY? when this never happened before?

Dear Mac Rocket Scientists: is this really THAT hard to fix, or are you busy texting on your iPhones?

How are you using Command V ?

I open the email from the Security Camera System and the Question Mark image preview doesn't allow me to right click for a Paste option, or do Command V to it.

The only thing it permits me to do is double click on the Question Mark, to open the image ... image previewer then throws up the error message too.

Any fix for this yet ?

Same situation here, maybe slightly different, but with the same outcome: When I attach a pic to an email - no matter if it's jpg oder png, no matter if I do a drag-and-drop or Cmd-C and Cmd-V or choose the paper clip from the icon bar - and send it, the pic will appear as a blue question mark (or white on blue, rather) in the "Sent" folder. QuickView, though, will reveal the pic, but I don't think this is the way it should be.

On the other end, when my buddy receives that mail, he sometimes gets the real image - and sometimes a question mark, too.

Also, when I receive an email with an attachment, jpg's and png's show as question marks. PDF's, however, most of the time appear correctly. (Most of the time...)

You guys who installed the OS X Update - did you do a Combo Update or just the regular one?! I have 10.10.2 installed, but maybe I run the Combo Update to see if the situation changes.

I just tested it again in different variation with a .pages document with a table.

Open .pages doc - right click copy (trackpad)- right click paste (trackpad)= question mark ? in received email

Open .pages doc - right click copy (trackpad) - command-v into body of email = produces the table in body of email

.pages doc from desktop or finder - drag and drop = filename.pages icon, double click to open

.pages doc - using "attachment" (paperclip) option within new mail = filename.pages icon, double click to open

Now with a .jpeg

Open .jpeg - edit, copy - edit, paste = question mark ? in received email

Open .jpeg - edit/copy - command-v into body of email = produces the .jpeg image in body of received email

drag and drop from desktop and Finder, as well as the "attachment" (paperclip) option within a new email = produces the .jpeg image in body of received email

Now just a simple body of text

highlight text in reply box here - right click copy (trackpad) - right click paste (trackpad) = produces copy of text in body of received email

Summary: You can not right click/paste anything, other than a body of text, into an email. It will show at the receiving end as the blue question mark in the email.

This test was done with OS X Yosemite, version 10.10.2

checkmarks on: always send windows friendly attachment and include original attachments in reply
