sleep wake problem with Yosemite on my Mac Mini Mid 2012

I also have little snitch installed. No issues whatsoever after removing airparrot.

10.10 did get tougher on developer extensions. Causing some problems with my drobo time machine backup. still working on that one.

An update from my side:

Today I got home and tried to awake my Mac Mini (mid 2011), but got a freeze instead. As said in my previous post I uninstalled a app called "LogmeIn" which apparently installed his own audio device in my sound output list. So, today I was down to two sound devices 1) headphones and 2) my receiver with connected speakers.

I can now confirm that the freeze-issue ALSO arrises with NO speakers connected through a 3.5 jackplug, but only a HDMI connection to my receiver! This differs from others in this thread whose problem was temporarily solved by unplugging their speakers from the 3.5 audio jack. Don't know what to do right now to solve my problem, so I'm really hoping for a fix from Apple.

Just on a sidetone, I "wake" my Mac Mini using Rowmote Pro... Any chance that this can cause the problem? (never had this issue before though, using Rowmote Pro on Mavericks... and the developer of Rowmote Pro states that Rowmote is already Yosemite-proof)

In case these clarifications benefit others during their troubleshooting processes...

My Mac that's exhibiting this issue does not have any third party audio stuff installed (and never has) and has no straggling kexts left over from past software. It's simply a 2010 Mac Mini (though others are having this issue with other kinds of Macs) that is hooked up to a receiver and a television through a chain of HDMI connections. There is nothing plugged into my audio port, and my wi-fi is turned off (the machine uses a hardwired ethernet connection).

I am seeing this issue occur when I simply turn off my television for a long time, like overnight. Some days it's fine, some days it locks up and gives me the "cursor moves but user interface does not respond" situation. My Mini is set to never "sleep" itself or its display, all it ever does is spin down hard drives and spin them back up. Simply turning off my HDMI display, though, will often cause this issue.

The only way I seem to be able to mitigate the issue is to never turn off the TV which I refuse to do. I have been leaving my receiver on, since it's pretty cold here at night right now and it's not a huge deal, but I look forward to not doing that after Apple does something...

My freezing problem was resolved by disabling the HDMI audio (using the DVI connector on my monitor). I've had speakers plugged into the headphone jack of my mini and no problems with waking up from sleep since.

I replaced the HDMI->HDMI cable with an HDMI->DVI so the audio interface on the monitor is no longer available to the system. Just one audio output is seen under Preferences, the headphone jack.

I've been following this thread almost since it's beginning and there seems to be quite a few combinations that can create this system freeze when waking from sleep, but HDMI audio seems to be one of the most common factors. Hopefully Apple is paying attention to this issue and will have a patch sometime in the near future. This is the first big bug I've run into since my first Mac in 2005.

me too having the same issue, and quite disappointed as I'm also a "switcher". As my first MAC, I've bought a Mac Mini i7 2.6GHz with SSD option, and 16 GB of RAM; I was very happy of my choice since I've installed Yosemite....

Just to be helpful, I'll try some troubleshooting steps during these days, and I'll report to you:

- 1st test would be to unplug the speakers 3.5mm jack from the audio output of the mini, before clicking on the STOP button, and see whether the sleep/wake function will works.

- 2nd test would be to enable to HDMI monitor audio interface, and see whether the sleep/wake functions will works with the speakers connected to the monitor. As reference I have an LG 23MP65HQ.

For what I've read, diving through all the posts, is that enabling the audio through HDMI will not allow me to modify the volume with the Apple keyboard, and the volume icon will appears grey.

I hope Apple will fix asap this issue, I've not switched to MAC to deal with such issues.

I have a Mac Mini 2012 and an Acer monitor. As suggested in another post, I switched the video input from HDMI>HDMI to HDMI>DVI and the problem disappeared. I’ve hooked my audio back up to the 3.5mm jack and all is well. Very strange.

But I only would want to change from a HDMI -> HDMI to HDMI -> DVI cable, when I don't lose the "Audio Return Channel" feature. This feature makes that I only need one HDMI cable for my Mac Mini to Receiver connection for image and sound. AND it offers me support for just using one remote control for TV and Receiver for on/off and volume control. So, I would rather not lose that feature which I think is not supported bij DVI.

So, I'm still hoping for a quick fix. And as a sidenote, today my Mac Mini woke without freezing when I didn't change anything since yesterday when it did freeze. So, it's not only an annoying, but also a random problem...

Same issue. Not every wake up causes frozen (except mouse moving), but approx one of three wakes does. (Mac mini mid 2010)

Just to update about my tests, I can confirm that unplugging the 3.5mm jack of the speakers before clicking on "STOP" to put in sleep the Mini worked fine: the mini woke up without problems.

Quite annoying, but, before an official patch will be released, we have a workaround.

This worked for me! On my Mac Mini I switched from HDMI to DVI (using a Lightning/DisplayPort --> DVI adapter) and the problem is gone even with the 3.5mm audio plugged in. Thanks! 🙂

Following up.

I was galvanized by zerofive to try re-installing Little Snitch, but I got the same system freezes. I tried their nightly beta version and that still didn't work. I reached out to the developers and they responded that they are actually aware of the issue with Yosemite and are working a fix.

So, while this wasn't related to the wake from sleep bug, I wasn't crazy and there was a secondary issue with my machine! Good to know!

In terms of the wake from sleep issue, I have been okay for a few days as long as I have the machine set to not go to sleep at all. I am actually doing ok with speakers plugged into the 3.5mm mini-jack. Not ideal, but not experiencing the freezes. I tested again earlier by manually putting the machine to sleep and it immediately froze upon waking. Still in need of a fix.

Just want to chime in w my configuration. Same problem, seriously annoying. Will not wake up after sleep (or screensaver/sleep). Config: iMac 27-inch, 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB. I reckon mine is an "older" machine - is this associated w certain graphics cards, or...?

I have this problem in my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011) Processor : 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory : 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Graphics : Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB. I don't have any external audio devices connected and still this issue occurs.
