sleep wake problem with Yosemite on my Mac Mini Mid 2012

Same problem with Mac (27-inch, Late 2012). This has been an issue for some time and seemingly ignored by Apple. What about "it just works" this does not! Having to hard reboot every morning is worse than my corporate Windows laptop. Suggestions about unplugging stuff every night are dark ages solutions. Get a grip Apple.

Following up - I've still been experiencing the same problem, but noticed someone made a comment about Little Snitch. I too have this installed... I disabled it (while also having put hard disks to sleep disabled, and set screen to never sleep) and came back the following morning to a working and *non hanging* mac mini! I don't like leaving my hard disk active, so I'm going to see if disabling Little Snitch was the main, and only, culprit. Hope this helps.

I hate to say that I've only skimmed and have not read each post in this thread. However, I found that if I turn my monitor off when I leave my late '12 Mac Mini, it awakens with no problems. I have HDMI to my HP w2207h and have my Logitech speakers plugged into my headphone jack.

I still forget to turn my monitor off so I return to a frozen screen where just my cursor is active. APPLE, HURRY UP AND FIX THIS ANNOYANCE SOOOOOON!

Found this is another thread - and this trick worked for me - hooray! No problems (two days) since trying this out, it "sleeps" and wakes up again. Again, I am on an iMac 27-inch, mid-2011, with Yosemite recently installed. I did not do a clean install of Yosemite, but installed it on top of Mavericks, as most do. In any case, if you have not tried below, see if it works for you, is fairly simple. By the way, below was reported working for some Mac Minis (though not all):

Press command+shift+c (in Finder) - > Macintosh HD - > Library - > Preferences -> Drag SystemConfiguration on desktop, it's going to make a copy of it (May ask for password, then delete it from the Preferences (which is the initial folder). Shut down, then do a PRAM Reset. If you don't know how to do that :

After you shut down the computer, locate the option, command, P and R from your keyboard. Press the power button to turn it on and quickly press all four buttons before hearing the first 'power up sound'. Keep them pressend until you hear a second 'power up sound'.

This fixed the problem but cannot be a permanent solution since my monitor doesn't have a built in speaker. A look at this problem is long overdue by Apple.

Same problem for me... Actually.. after installing Yosemite I have various problems.. some seem interlinked.. on MAC MINI LATE 2012 installed from Mavericks

- Can't use SLEEP as it freezes on waking up
- WIFI disappears or slows down. Found other people with the same problem... seems linked to DNS... but (in my opinion) also to...
- Problems with long chain USB peripherals... if you use hub or multiple connections of some kind.. and this seems to interfere on overall performance .. and also WiFi
- I am ITALIAN and one every two boots Mac Mini loses my keyboard settings and puts me into the US keyboard

Samee problem with headphones plugged in; no problem if removed

I am on the phone with Apple. I have two monitors.

Monitor 1 - monitor only has cdmi. (not a tv but a monitor). It shows a "phantom" audio adapter in sound preference but monitor clearly did not come with speakers. (AOC).

Monitor 2 - VIewsonic DVI/VGA only. Audio in.

If I plug the view sonic in with DVI to HDMI to the HDMI port, wake from sleep works perfectly. If I add the same AOC to a mini-display port to HDMI apapter. Wake from sleep works. This same monitor with HDMI to HDMI - wakes and freezes. Eventually reboots on its own with an error about too many excessive wake from sleeps.

Late 2012 Mac Mini 2.5 Ghz Core i5 -

• I ran diagnostics.
• Reset PRAM.
• Reset SMC.
• Reinstalled OS 5 times in the last 3 days. (reformatting and did an internet recovery)
• Apple phone advisor said I've done all the necessary troubleshooting. I am on Yosemite 10.10. Everything worked fine in Public Beta.
• She is transferring me to a senior advisor to gather information.

I just tried this without the headphones and it worked fine with the same exact HDMI setup. I can confirm that there is something wonky with the headphone jack setup and this mac when HDMI is connected.

Same MacMini issues, etc., however, my beef is that if these are Apple viewed forums, discussions, etc., and the posts go on and on and on and on and on about the same problems, when does Apple "chime in" and address, discuss, offer solutions, acknowledge, resolve?

While these are forums on Apple's servers under Apple's control and moderation, you will not see a response from a technician, software engineer, hardware engineer, etc. It is just user to user, peer to peer.

The best we all can do is file bug reports with detailed description and maybe a link back to this forum thread; that way they know it is not only the person who submits it with the issue; and then hopefully with enough responses it gets some traction somewhere, moving from the right desk up the ladder into the Apple towers for a fix in the next .x release.

well i stayed on the phone with apple tech , she told me first she doesn't follow the community issue , and then she started telling me to change the batteries and stuff like that, then she referred me to her supervisor who was nice, and asked me to remove this ( com.apple.bluetooth.plist ) then we restarted it worked, s o i thought thats it , but it seems no,

when the mac mini sleeps for long time more that 2-3 hours it go back to freeze

its a shame that simple problem like that can't be fixed

There is a known (to veteran apple users) disconnect between Apple and these forums. While I understand that they don't want to pay for staff to be actively engaged in support here and possibly get some liability issues for misunderstood or incorrect diagnosis and advice; I don't understand why techs can't take 2 min during a support call and have a quick glance at a topic covering hundreds of users.

While there are plenty of issues with apple in general with wifi and bluetooth; we know that a simple restart works.

And your tech had you change batteries?

What batteries are there to change in the typical mac mini with a usb keyboard & usb mouse?

If you get a chance to give feedback on that support call, please let them know that they failed to listen to the client, failed to diagnose the issue and failed to come up with a solution. We're talking about a non-responsive login after deep sleep >2-3 hrs / overnight.

Just got my 2014 Mac Min i7, Fusion Drive. Works fine except if I let it go to sleep. I started noticing it re-boot on its own while it was a sleep. Also have seen similar reported problems where once it is asleep pressing keys would not wake it and it would also suddenly reboot. Came with Yosemite 10.10 already installed. Using miniDisplay to DVI cable to connect to LCD monitor. No audio connected to Mac or the monitor.. Only a USB keyboard.which originally came with my old PowerMac G5 and a wireless mouse. I would like to have Sleep functional so I don't have to shutdown everytime. This appears not to be just a problem with older Mac Mini's but also with the most current. Sounds like Yosemite to me. I have not installed any software on it yet. I will try disabling sleep all together for now.
