sleep wake problem with Yosemite on my Mac Mini Mid 2012

I am onto TWO separate conversations... THIS one and one on a CUT N PASTE problem on iOS 8...Exactly the same behaviour.. Apple doesn't acknowledge bugs, doesn't answer, and doesn't put in contact phone technical help with this forum! They are all problems that we, users, have understood and to some extent studied and maybe partially solved.. still .. to them.. they seem they don't exist...
What is the point of having someone on the phone that overtime goes on with the same story... Check batteries, SMC startup, PR Startup, make backup then reinstall OS.. etc.. we're not kids... !

Can you do us a favor and actually call apple? I was able to speak to a senior advisor that was able to gather information.

Apple needs data to fix bugs. Posting a reply that says "yeah me too" doesn't helo apple. Ok.... Yeah me too what? where was your machine mfg'd? Serial number? Board production number? Do you have apple ram? Apple drive? is there a software installed ? I gave them detailed information. Nothing was plugged in. Stock ram stock drive. We could reproduce the issue. We then captured the data and sent to engineers

i found somehow a solution till they fix this bug

i unplug the audio cable and setup the audio to come from the monitor , it is a shame now i can't use the sound speakers i have

I spoke with Apple tech support and they sent me "Data Capture" software - I am now going to allow my Mac Mini to sleep and freeze every night and run the data capture program every day and send it to Apple until they come up with a fix.

I let the senior adviser know how displeased I was because they indicated to me they weren't even aware of the issue - to top things off, I asked why a tech hasn't chimed in on the discussion board or even acknowledged there was an issue and they were working on a fix. NOPE - NOTHING - Just run the software and send it in. I recommend everyone call Apple - Get the software and run it each and every day and send it in every day. I'm sure you all would like this resolved as I.

Apple has had ALL my details since I became an Apple customer. They knew how to find me 10 yrs ago after an opinion piece made the tech press. Anyhow. Took part in the beta program. Sent in several dozen issues via the feedback program. Did so for the sleep wake problem as of Yosemite beta 2 when this non-login issue first arose for me. Repeated that with consequent betas and the description that it was login screen issue. (initially I thought it was USB). So they've had an entire system report for months, with more details in it than I even know, they know how my system is kitted out better than I do, who I am, where I live, what my numbers are, etc.

Additionally have sent in a bug report with similar info and a link to this thread.

Unfortunately, due to how Apple works, I'm not going to spend money on an out of warranty support call, and waste time speaking to tier 1 and 2 support who will proclaim this is the first time they've heard of this issue ... only to not have this fixed. Been there done that with phone support and trips to the geniuses. (no disrespect, but when I call for help, I've already done the basic troubleshooting and want to talk to somebody who knows how to address the issue; rather then sending us in circles repeating what I already did) I'm up for logging data, sending reports, filing bugs, making phone calls, testing out patches and what not ... without having to pay for a support call.

In more positive news. Rumor has it that (correction) 10.10.1 has been sent out to developers and includes some wake from sleep fixes.

Waiting 3 weeks for a "fix" to a problem that was clearly identified and reported mutliple times during beta is not acceptable. And the suggestion to keep making useless phone calls to Apple Support sounds good, but in reality, is just a waste of time. This is just one of a zillion things that aren't working properly in Yosemite on Apple's own equipment. It's clear the focus on campus in Palo Alto is getting the NEW Apple hardware to sell, and whether the OS works on older hardware is very low priority. So, we can all go out and buy the $5000 new iMac and hope Yosemite works on that, or stick with Mavericks for another 6 months while Apple takes it's sweet time fixing some of the things that don't work. I doubt all of it ever will work correctly on older Apple hardware, and frankly, Yosemite looks like crap on everything except the Thnunderbolt display anyway. Lastly, Ysoemite does not "play nicely" with most third party software. You have to tweak the **** outta everything to get thing to work.

HI all I have just brought the 2014 mac mini and I have the exact same thing. Spent over an hour on the phone with apple, it's a pity other than that its a great machine. There are 2 ways round this use a mini display port connected to the thunderbolt port, or set the machine never to go to sleep and use screen saver instead. MacMini 2014 2.6ghz 8gb ram 1tb hard drive and apple wireless keyb and mouse.

Here is the point, the big issue, as far as I'm concerned.

Regardless of any stories, excuses, etc., the bottom line is the reason a lot of disgruntled Windows users looked to the other side was not because Tim Cook was there, but because we all wanted a better experience with our computers, and Apple proved it's worthiness....until they grabbed a larger market share, and as more users gravitate towards Apple, they are becoming much more like Microsoft and all the other major players in the industry, pushing things out way too soon, fat cats spending their surging stock values becoming lazy (as in the developers and programmers responsible for the finished product) and overlooking all the things that used to be gone through with much more intensity.

Come on Apple, let's get the ducks in a row and be the leader you are supposed to be.

Ok now this is becoming counterproductive. Look Apple has more than one model to consider when they patch an OS. Do you think that a 14 page thread forum post has not received their attention? This is just one of several posts about this very issue. People are calling in. Apple can't just go out and admit anything nor are they obligated to admit anything. They also won't release a patch until it's been tested and ensures it doesn't break every other model that is out there. That takes time. (I wish I had that job) At this point Apple should shut the post down to any further replies because now it's just unproductive and whining.

The Facts:

• We discovered issues with HDMI native devices and headphone jack
• The issue is that when the mac wakes from sleep it freezes. We can reproduce this.
• If we unplug the headphone jack then everything works okay. We can reproduce this.
• We've had several people do all the basic troubleshooting including: System restore, reset PRAM, reset SMC, try different cables, etc.
• Some of us have submitted posts and called Apple. Apple gathered the information necessary and said thank you.

Many moons ago I worked for apple. This goes back to the 1990s during Gil Amelio's days. Nothing has changed. This is how Apple addresses issues. They take information and keep it close to the chest. This is also how Dell does it. Lenovo, HP, etc etc etc does it. They know. They will resolve this or they won't. Apple typically fixes obscure issues so I would place a bet that this one will be addressed because it seems to be impacting many users. You will likely eventually read about it in the next README that comes with the 10.10.x update and say to yourself, "Oh I guess they did know."

Do you want a fix? I had a spare USB dongle and I am using it for sound. You can pick one up for $9 at one of the many retailers. It works for now and actually sounds better than most internal sound devices.... especially cheap laptops that I have owned. I am happy to use this and then wait for a release to fix it. I encourage you to do the same. USB sound cards are dirt cheap and it's always nice to have one around. You never know when you need it. I've had this one since 2006 and I keep it around because... well I don't know why I have it but i have a drawer full of stuff like this lying around. I mean it was $9.

Call Apple, report the issue, go have a beer or something. Enjoy the day. For the love of...

That was a nice post! 😉 Btw... as far as I know 10.10.1 is at developers for testing since today. Build name is 14B17... Does anybody know something more about it? I hope it will bring solution for this ridiculous audio-jack issue... however my mini (mid-2010) has stopped freezing instead of waking up since a week. I changed nothing.... Audio-jack remained plugged, etc... I want to forget this issue indeed.

I almost forgot about something... I switched off WiFi few days ago, because it's connected to the router by cable. I was surprised because it was switched off before the Yosemite upgrade. I dont know is it matter or not, but there is WiFi issue on Yosemite as well...

It is unrelated to the issue but it is a feature related to iCloud. I noticed all my wifi settings on my phone and iPad popped into my macs. Neat but I would like a little more granular control. Also you don't need wifi but you may want to either create a location profile with the adapter removed or leave it on. The reason why you may leave it on is because find my Mac and location services require it Be running. So I left mine running
