Macbook Pro won't shut down after installing Yosemite

Problem is back again. After my 4th successful restart, the problem seems to be back..😕.😕.😕.😕

Apple we need an update..

I've disable FileVault and my MBP 17 (late 2011) now turn off without problem 🙂.

I'm using yosemite too.

Same problem here. Macbook Pro 15 w/Retina Display 2012.... upgraded to Yosemite a couple of days ago. I get the dark screen with the cursor showing when i will shut down.

Occationally I have the problem back, what I did was repair permission then logout then shutdown (not shutdown directly). Then the second time I can shutdown directly again.

This worked for me too! Mac mini from 2012, no FileVault, problem started when I installed Yosemite.

I guess this is one of many reasons and solutions, since there seem to be many different cases with only the not shutting down symptom in common. I don't even know which solution did the trick (resetting PRAM, checking disk permissions, uninstalling an old version of Parallels, etc) because I tried all of them at once out of desperation. I'm still not sure if it's fixed forever or it'll come back in a couple of days. The thing is there must be something wrong in Yosemite or else this wouldn't be happening to all of us, with different machines, FileVault on or off, software and such. If this can also be triggered by setting up a custom wallpaper, Apple helps us 😕

The wallpaper trick worked for me! Changed back to the default wallpaper and it shuts down politely.

Mac Mini with Yosemite, no FileVault, default wallpaper. After trying every possible solution here, the problem disappeared for a couple of days, then came back. If I shut down the computer, it freezes at the black screen and spinning wheel. If I try logging out, it freezes with the wallpaper and cursor. If it freezes with the wallpaper I can still force shutting down the Finder () and it logs out, but then when I try to shut down the computer it freezes with the black screen.

Yes, had the same strange graphics effects with new MacBook Pro 15" retina, but only when using Safari and clicking on page inputs.

I had this problem occur to me just two days ago and had to force shutdown each time. I have a 15" macbook pro from 2012. I found that running repairing the disk permissions twice fixed the problem.
