Macbook Pro won't shut down after installing Yosemite

here is a simple workaround :

switch to an other account (or create a new admin one) then switch to it and shutdown.

Thanks HR - That solved it for me. 2 of my 3 drives are Firewire and I can confirm that ejecting them prior to shutting down did the trick for me.

For me this problem was caused by Little Snitch 3.5. No problems after deleting it.

Have the same problem - a shutdown or reboot causes a black screen with spinning disk. A logout and then shutdown is the only thing that works. What's up with Apple QC of HW/SW nowadays?

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011) here.

Setting wallpaper to "Yosemite 3" (in both monitors) worked for me.

I thought wallpaper back to default solved my problem, but it is not solving it.

My problem can't be FileVault. I never activated it (and I confirm it's off).

Great catch. I was also suffering from the Parallels cruft problem. Ran the uninstaller script and reboots like a charm now. Thanks!

Firewire issue solved for me... I have to disconnect firewire disk before shutdown...

I had the same issue,just performed repair disk permissions using Disk Utility on Macintosh HD & my macbook pro is shutting down fine...

You should probably, try clean installing Yosemite.... Even after that if issues persist then try consulting Apple support...

Thanx Bro , it worked, I saw that at the time of repair permission , there were issues , it showed the default values and what it had . As the task got over my issue of screen freeze got sorted.

For me it seems that ejecting the external FireWire drive before shutdown or reboot is the solution... For now.

It worked for me repairing the permissions in Disk utilities! Thank you guys!
