My Telus email account not working

After upgrading to Yosemite, one of a few other problems, is that I can't connect to my Telus email account. I re-entered username, and password, I get a message that the password can't be transmitted securely, I go ahead anyways but it still doesn't connect

any ideas?

thanks

I spent three hours with Telus support (chat) and despite their best efforts I still cannot receive emails (Mail) after installing Yosemite. I can send and receive e-mails via Telus Webmail but not via iMac Mail. I keep getting the message that my password can't be sent to Telus...

Any one have any solutions? I've been at this for five hours!

I also chatted with Telus tech support the other day, when he suggested to delete the account and re-create it, which it worked so I stopped the chat with tech support

however, little later...same problem, every time I deleted the account and re-create it works for a while but then it doesn't so now I just check my telus email on webmail until hopefully a fix soon....

Hi Nick,

I went to Tim the Tech guy (see Stratusphunk's post above) and followed what Tim the Tech Guy had posted. While it wasn't easy peesy, I have managed to get my iMac Mail sending and receiving e-mails in a normal fashion. For me the main item was checking a wee little box that said "Allow unsecured authetication."

i also cleared off my SMTP list and re-entered the information.

The box to "Allow insecure authentication" needs to be un-checked for each Telus IMAP account. However, there's a bug in Yosemite where it doesn't save this checkbox between sessionsy. When you quit Mail, then fire it up again, you'll need to un-check this same box again for each Telus account. Telus tells me that they have chatted to Apple about this, and Apple should have a fix "soon".

I too had the same problems and went to apple for support. There are clearly problems

FOR Imap the solutions above work but for SMTP if you create your telys account with port 587 and no password required it will work BUT it will only work when you are on the Telus network. If you are travelling and not on the telly network fryer if or internet You cannot send mail/ If you try port 1025 and password authentication you cannot send mail period. This is a a bug = using Thunderbird there are no issues. I you use port 1025 and password authentication it works just fine I tested it t my university today. There is clearly bug with Telus and Mail

I re-entered username, and password, I get a message that the password can't be transmitted securely, I go ahead anyway but it still doesn't connect, i called up Telus i spent 3 hours on the phone trying to resolve this problem , Telus got it back ,but only for a while, they finally gave up.I called Apple they got the Telus Email back , but still can not keep the server working, i really complained to apple about this new OS X update, and told them they are creating more problems , with those awful updates, they apologize , and trying to fix the problem, my TELUS account is still not working.I will try again tomorrow. What a day wasted on the phone

In my previous post, I found that checking the "Allow insecure authentication" box allowed mail to work, but this setting wasn't saved. Turns out there is another box on this page that needs to be un-checked "Automatically detect and maintain account settings". Making sure both these boxes are checked/unchecked for each Telus IMAP account solves the problem. The end result looks like this:
