Yosemite Mail still has sync problems with Gmail - any solutions?

If you haven't discovered this already, switch to "Classic View". I personally like it better, and it will take care of your swiping issue since it won't be turned on there. Plus, maybe you'll hate the location of the composition window less than you do now.

From Doug's latest message, it sounds like he is using Classic View while you may not be.

I actually like the Full Screen mode a lot in El Capitan and when I use that of course the compose window opens from the bottom, in the center, and I can have multiple compose windows open at once, each with its own tab. The problem with that is you can't keep Mail in the full screen mode all the time...you have to always click the green "expand" button.

For me the composition window opens in the same place in either classic view or the modern view. The window is almost completely at the right side of my 21" Retina iMac. The only time it behaves is when I go full screen with Mail, which closes the menu bar, then the compose window is in the center and a lot larger.

Odd...not the case here. The new message window always opens for me with its right edge about 1/2 inch from the right edge of the display, which puts the left edge of the compose window a few inches right of center. Being left eye dominant, this is a pain since I have to move each window to the left before composing a message.

Doug and FJ9999, I figured out the issue with the positioning of the compose window. I resized it and moved it to exactly where I wanted it, then closed Mail, restarted, and since then it opens exactly where I want it. The world is round again :-)

Not sure why this procedure fixed the problem, but I rarely restart my Mac, so perhaps something was just "stuck" somewhere. In any event...it works and now the only thing that bothered me with Mail.app is fixed.

Doug, just FYI there is another really nice-looking mail client currently in the final alpha stages, but easy to get on the list. I've played with it and it has a ton of potential and nice features. https://polymail.io/

Well...turns out the problem still exists, and it's the only thing left that drives me crazy about Mail.app. I can fix it by doing what I said, but it returns after sending a couple of emails and the only way to fix it again is repositioning the window and restarting Mail.app. Just too much of a pain. I'm going to start a thread about it to see if there's a solution or if it's just something I'll have to live with.
