widget translator bug

On my MacBook Pro 17-inch, Early 2009 - OS X Version 10.9.5

Same here, I think the server that provides the translations must be down. This is annoying, I use that widget a lot.

Yeah, I'm seeing this issue, too. I use the widget often, so it's a bit of a pain to have it offline. I trashed the plist and lockfile, but no change. Annoying.

It's fair to assume that the server is offline. It may be that Apple's agreement with Systran has come to an end. I hope that is not the case. I will be watching this closely. One would rightly expect an unexpected period of downtime to be resolved quickly. This has already lasted days, which does not bode well.

I hope they fix this ASAP, being able to translate bulk text is great on this widget. Nothing out there compares as of yet.

The widget appears to have broken on the exact same moment Yosemite was released. I think this is yet another case of an OS feature that is let to rot away slowly. Of course we're all supposed to upgrade to Yosemite and use widgets in the notification center.

Apple's license with Systran has simply expired: if I manually send a request to the same server that the widget uses, I get this response:

“The SYSTRANLinks API for this ID has expired on 2014-10-17”

The widget is still present in Yosemite however, so if they really intended not to renew the license, they would have dropped the widget too. I cannot imagine they would have decided not to renew the license to save a few bucks.

This may just be an oversight that is somewhat understandable, given Apple's obvious intentions of axing Dashboard in one of the upcoming OS X releases. Maybe it would help if at least a few people would notify them about the problem through the OS X feedback page.

That's a bit difficult on my Early 2008 MacBook4,1. It end-of-lifes at OS X 10.7.5. *sigh*

Good news, they seem to have renewed the license because the widget works again.
