Internet Sharing not working

My Macbook took forever to boot into Safe Mode (its time to get an SSD!)

Actually the first attempt - it did not boot into safe mode - it tried too and then shut down.

The second attempt I got into safe mode - i couldn't re-establish a screen sharing connection with you.

Also in the Network settings it did not recognise the iPhone as a Network source - even though iTunes could pick it up .

If you are available i would really like to continue solving this problem ,

I hope someone from Apple can solve the problem soon and post some information for us here. The apple technician I was chatting to about this problem seemed like he knew how to solve the problem and wanted me to share it "with the world" - but unfortunately we were disconnected before we could solve the problem

Looks like basically the same thing here.

Trying to share an internet connection using one of the iMacs.

Both my iPhone and the other iMac are able to find the network created with "internet sharing" but are not able to connect.

tried everything I could find on forums so far........

similar issue(along with the WiFi symbol not changing to the sharing symbol in the upper right hand corner) happened when I "upgraded" to Mavericks but was able to resolve that with a Terminal patch.

No luck with anything like this in Yosemite so far.....

(except that the internet sharing symbol is present)

Would have stayed with Mavericks if I had know this would happen.

I was seduced by the description of the update to Yosemite which stated it "resolves" WiFi sharing issues.

Kind of depressing

Any simple way of switching back to Mavericks?

talked with AppleCare people and the confirmed Internet sharing of USB iPhone is STILL SUPPORTED and although in my case it does not work IT SHOULD.. This is fairly logical as if they decided to remove the support of iPhone Internet sharing they would have removed it from the drop-down menu on the sharing panel.

I will try a very extreme test: clean installing Yosemite on an external HD to test this functionality from scratch and will tell you...

Let us know the results. I did that too and my AppleCare Support had confirmed that he can reproduce this (not working sharing with iPhone) on his clean install.

Done, clean install of OSX 10.10.2 on formatted HD, no settings or restore performed.

Result: out of the box Internet sharing from USB iPhone is definitely not working.

I reinstalled Yosemite 10.10.2 and I still have the internet sharing problem. Do any of you also run a server from the same machine with the internet sharing problem?

Yep, same issues here. Was working fine in Yosemite on my older Macbook Pro, circa 2011. Had to upgrade it to the newest one because of a failing logic board(which they are now replacing for FREE because of issue). New machine, the current Macbook Pro, will not share the iPhone USB internet connection via WiFi. I can get it to share a wired internet connection via WiFi and also a Bluetooth connection from my iPhone. I need the iPhone USB sharing to work, as this is best system for my offsite work that I do quite a bit.

Had been on phone conversation with a senior Apple advisor trying to fix this, she was very helpful. Did not get very far. Will try to revisit it with her this week, as I have her contact info and she was going to research it for me.

Indeed over Bluetooth it works..... still a mystery why a USB cable is "more dangerous". And connecting over Bluetooth requires more active steps to setup on MacBook everytime you want to reconnect.

My issue is the same but more general: Ethernet -> USB adapter can't be shared over Wifi (doesn't create a wifi network). It creates it fine if I share an ethernet connection, but not a USB connection.

So this issue still exists in 10.10.2. Has anyone found a solution?

By way of information, I had not disabled my ICS since before the upgrade to Yosemite, it was still working fine even after upgrade. Then I disabled it to stop kids from connecting for a bit, and have been unable to get it to re-enable.

The same problem still exist in 10.10.3, I've tried everything but until now is not possible for me to use internet sharing from usb iPhone to wifi.

In log file I found this message:

.local configd[52]: preference: no external service id

It seems that the system doesn't recognize usb devices as suitable for internet sharing.

I hope it will be fixed in next upgrades.
