Trash won't empty > Yosemite 10.10

I just downloaded Yosemite. The update sent several files including an iPhone.....restore.IPSW into the Trash. The other file I've been unable to empty is an IMovie. No error warnings -- it just sits and tries to empty for long periods of time. Stalls in the middle of each. I've moved each out of the Trash but it neither empties with the two or with just one. I've tried the Option Key hold-down, but that didn't work either. Thanks for any advice.

First, restart the computer then try to empty the Trash. If that does not work then try this instead:


Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on solving Trash issues. You can also try using Trash It! 5.1 to fix the problem. Or you can try this:


Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder and paste the following at the prompt:


sudo rm -Rf ~/.Trash


Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not echo to the screen so type carefully. Press RETURN again.
