Thunderbolt Display & Yosemite Startup

After installing Yosemite on my Macbook Air, whenever I power on my Air with the Thunderbolt Display connected, it does not turn on the display. I have to sign in on the Air screen before it even recognizes the Thunderbolt Display is even connected. Also, my Magic Trackpad does not work before logging into my user account.

Had similar problem with Yosemite update on 27in iMac (late 2012) with a 27in Thunderbolt Display as second screen. Update stalled, tried several times to restart, partially successful but not 'right'. Did a Cmd+R, checked & repaired disk, still not sorted, so another Cmd+R and reinstall of OS X 10.10.

For restart disconnected Thunderbolt Display and started up ok. I think there is still an issue that Apple need to sort with the T'bolt Display, particularly if there are peripherals attached via the T'bolt Display rear ports.

Will try again with the T'bolt Display attached once I've done a full backup of current settings.

Got a similar issue with my Mid 2015 MacBookPro 15" connecting my 34" LG 34UM95-P Display. Disconnecting the display results in the MBP display switching off and not waking up again, only a hard reboot helps.

Additionally, sometimes connecting or disconnecting the display results in built-in input devices failing (keyboard and trackpad, sometimes both, sometimes just one). Connecting a USB input device seems to reset this, both input devices are re-enabled then, but only then.

Sorry if you think Apple is going to fix the problems surrounding the TBDisplay. Complaints about TBDisplays not waking up after sleep or blanking out or non-working TB hub or usb hub started back in 2011.

The problems have been continuous since September 2011 here:

Thunderbolt Display turns off randomly

And again here since October 2011:

Thunderbolt Display will not wake up after sleep!!!!!!

I think we need to do something more than wait for Apple. It appears to me that Apple is hoping we all just go away. That or our warranty or service contracts expire.
