ipconfig equivelant

When using windows to test network problems I would use the command prompt, in OS10.3.9 what would the equivelant be for:

Command prompt
ipconfig
ipconfig/renew

Would I still test the loopback address by pinging 127.0.0.1

Excuse the question if it seems stupid, always used mac for specific software, never had to get right into the operating system.

Thanks in advance.

Hi rubberlug,

The equivalent to ipconfig would be ifconfig. Open the terminal (located inside the Utilities folder) and type:

man ifconfig

to get information on how to use this command.
If you just want to renew the IP address, open System Preferences, click on Network, select the network interface in question and click on "Renew DHCP lease".
In addition, the Utilities folder contains the "Network Utility" that offers a lot of information to help you troubleshooting.
