How do I delete podcasts from my playlist in iTunes 12?

Try the following:-

i) 'Consolidate Files'

ii) Right click the podcast and select 'Remove from Saved Episodes' (if you get the option 'Save Episode' then skip this step).

iii) Right click the episode and select 'Delete' (or just press delete)

iv) Click 'Yes' to confirm delete.

Well i had this problem and this solution worked for me. I recently moved my Itunes directory and I think this may have caused the problem.

What do you mean "consolidate files"? Are you on a mac?

This finally worked for me, but doing the reverse. "Podcast" was already showing in this box so I selected "episode list" from the top right drop down menu and was able to delete every episode in a particular series in one fell swoop. Thankfully. Very frustrating! So many different options that work for one person and not the next.

I ended up combining the idea of pressing shift and you're idea of pressing control to remove the podcast from my ipod.

It was a very rare issue. Nothing was working.. NOTHING.

Couldn't change playlist. Couldn't change the type of file from podcast to anything else, not music, not anything. Pressing shift + delete wouldn't work

The only think that did actually end up working was control + shift + delete.

YAY... nightmare over. I was seriously considering restoring factory settings on my ipod... which would have been an absolute pain because I manually manage my music, and it's literally from all over the place. I have it stored on like 3 different hard drives... and I only have an 8 GB iPod Nano 5th Gen.

For anyone wondering, my iTunes version is 12.1.1.4. Hope this post will save you all a lot of strife. I'm thinking of making it an original post.

So I ran into a problem where I had a file on my iPod "Rick Ross - Push It" and for some reason... this 4 minute song, thinks it qualifies as a podcast.. yeah.. keep dreaming. Funny thing is, it only shows up when you make a smart playlist and put on a filter for podcasts. So I tried changing it to a music file to no avail, where I found that the only category that came up in the list was "Podcast" (unlike other podcasts where it gave me a list of options.. e.g. Music, iTunesU and so forth). So trying to convince iTunes it wasn't a podcast, was not a viable option in making an attempt to put 'slick Rick' out of his misery. I searched forum after forum and simply could not find the answer.

The answer I found by accident thanks to a poster below who gave me the idea of pressing the control key in addition to my previous attempts at pressing the shift+delete key.

So that's what I did... Ctrl + Shift + Delete.

Abrahadabra.. Alakazam... the file dissapeared *!*!

So for all you experiencing similar issues, go to that problematic podcast file on your iPod within iTunes and press the aforementioned key combination on your keyboard.

Hopefully It should now be gone forever!! Finally, your nightmare is over.

I had the same issue and delete option did not work but using the delete key on my keyboard cleared the podcast from the left list and all episodes. I know it sounds crazy but it worked for me.

I deleted iTunes 12 after MUCH angst and frustration and re-installed 10.

Bad move - I couldn't get any Updates from the Store until I went back to 12. What a pile of crap.

Solved! (For me, at least.)

I had the same problem after rebuilding my iTunes library (due to an unrelated issue). Suddenly most of my podcasts were duplicated. Some had artwork, but others had no artwork, like the ones in your screenshot—and the contextual menus for those "generic" copies lacked a delete command.

The solution:

Turns out that when my iTunes library was rebuilt, the podcasts that had already been downloaded somehow got retagged (under Options > Media Kind) as "Music," instead of "Podcast"—and those were the ones that couldn't be deleted from the Podcast section. By switching to the Music section and searching for those titles, I was able to easily delete them without affecting the "proper" ones (with artwork) at all.

I hope this works for others.

Correction: This fix actually did reset all of the "Date Added" tags to the current date, which is a bigger caveat than expected. So, if "Date Added" is important to you, this fix is probably not for you.

I'm not sure if anyone has answered you already, but I also had this issue. The most bizarre part was the Podcast I unsubscribed from and no longer wanted disappeared on my PC but was still available on my Mac. Then I realized that I might have to treat it the same way I do any other program. I selected the podcast and then dragged it to my garbage can. Then I emptied the trash bin. Voila! Gone.

To the left top, under the play button you have different icons: music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, three dots and your iphone if it's connected.

Select podcast, then you will see the list of recent, unplayed, saved, etc. Right click any and it will pop a menu with the delete option.

It took me a while to get here because I was in the iPhone podcast list and you can't delete from there.

Mine show "Recent" and "Unplayed" but I can't find "Saved" anywhere. Is there options somewhere to add that?

Hello everyone. A couple days ago I subscribed to two podcasts. After which I realised there were two many entries so I decided to delete them. I ended up having the same issue of not being able to delete. Eventually I played around a bit and found out the process of downloading and then delete the item one by one (you have to download then after the download is complete you will have to delete the entry twice for it to be removed). That was taking forever. After playing around a bit more I figured out to delete the whole lot of them all at once. See screenshot.

Here's how I solved the problem with iTunes 12 on a Mac OS X:

1. Go to iTunes

2. Selecting the device you are trying to get podcasts on or off,

3. Click on Podcasts under Summary.

4. Click box above list of Podcasts SYNC PODCASYS

5. Below that is another box that reads AUTOMATICALLY INCLUDE xxx and EPISODES OF xx

6. I checked AUTOMATICALLY INCLUDE

7. Then, under EPISODES OF .... I chose SELECTED PODCASTS

8. Manually, go through podcasts and check the boxes next to the items you want sync'ed with your device.

9. Apply button at bottom right of dialog box

Nothing in this thread worked for me

Some played podcasts were showing up under my playlists but not under Library -> Podcasts (which is where I usually delete podcasts from). No matter which view (Feed, Saved Episodes etc) I selected, these played episodes would not show up under the Podcast list

Usually I can do a shift+delete (am using iTunes Windows 12.3.2) on phantom podcast episodes on my Played Podcast custom playlist to force delete them (even if they sometimes get redownloaded) but in this case that didn't work. Ctrl+Delete/Alt+Delete/Delete didn't work either. Nor did all the suggestions in this thread

In the end what worked was going to My Podcasts, selecting the Podcast that was giving problems (the Phantom episodes didn't show up here) and clicking "Refresh" at the bottom right

Hope this helps anyone else who has the same problem!

Here is the solution to deleting "Saved Episodes" under podcasts.

Highlight the episodes you want to delete or CTRL select the episodes you want to delete. Next, move your cursor to the top of the screen to reveal iTunes Tabs and select "Edit" - scroll down and hit "Delete".

I tried the other solutions posted but none of them worked for me. This worked on iTunes version 12.3.3.17
