Yosemite and Java Runtime Environment?

Found the same thing with my Mac Air.......no problems with the Java Runtime pop up. My I Mac is different altogether... even reinstalled new Yosemite..installed my last back up......and the pop up box is still there. And the Apple folks either don't know about it, or don't give a **** about it. There seems to be very little comeback from Apple about this problem

Having had my previous reply to you deleted by Apple( because of a bad word or even a criticism of their product), i can only confirm with you , that i have had exactly the same experience with my Mac Air ( no pop ups etc) since the Yosemite upgrade. I even went into my local Apple store this week ( Brighton UK) , and had perplexed Apple 'Geniuses' who said they hadn't seen this problem. Strange that so many other users have !! Anyway, Apple did a new reinstall of Yosemite, and.........the problem is still there.

Shame Apple deleted my last post instead of helping, and addressing this irritating and ongoing problem.

The solution for me and many other is to install java 6. I hesitated before because of security concerns but was assured that this is not an issue. You should try installing that older version. Apparently it works alongside the newer version that remains and plugs the previous security hole.

I had the same problem however, found the solution via 'Internet Patrol' site. If you download the following it will solve the problem of the pop-up immediately.

Java for OS X 2014-001

Java for OS X 2014-001 includes installation improvements, and supersedes all previous versions of Java for OS X. This package installs the same version of Java 6 included in Java for OS X 2013-005.

Had the same issue after my recent upgrade to Yosemite, got the error message Adobe InDesign CS5 (have one client who still uses this version) wouldn't open. Installed the Java For OSX2014-001 and now its working. Thanks for the post.

This fix is confirmed by Apple Express Support as well as myself. Thanks! Be sure to uninstall any Java 8 version you may have been prompted to install by Oracle's pop-up window before downloading Java for OS X 2014-001 (Java 6), and to restart your computer after installing. Annoying message gone forever!

I would be sure not to install java 8_40.

Unbeknownst to me, they'd been doing this with the windows version for awhile, but just recently blessed the most recent mac update with crapware as well.

I deleted it all together and haven't replaced it. haven't run into any issues yet, other than one app that's java based. Im sure I'll see more but it's not worth it (IMO). I wont be using it moving forward.

If necessary stick with an older version and be sure you dont have auto-update on.

I have installed both Java 6 (which didn't open a website puzzle I have used for a long time) and then Java 8. Now the website puzzle comes up but I can't interact with it because it is "unknown" to Java 8. Do I eliminate the website and re-subscribe? I'm afraid I will lose many years' worth of saved puzzles. How can I convince Java that it's okay?

The web site is expecting to find Java 6 as the linked Java browser environment. However, Mavericks and Yosemite will not allow their own Java 6, or Oracle's Java 7 to connect to any browser. Until the owners of the site wake up and update their game to recognize newer versions of Java, you're probably stuck.

It's either that, or install Snow Leopard, or other older version of OS X which will allow the use of Java 6 in a browser on a separate partition and boot to that when necessary. This requires having a Mac which originally came with an older OS. You cannot install anything older than the OS version your Mac shipped with.

Wow, I am glad someone posted this fix to the Java pop up every time I log in. I hate this kind of hello from computer.
