Spacebar moves cursor backwards

Okay, I have found a solution that works for me, I went to System Preferences => Keyboard => Text and turned off "Use smart quotes and dashes" and it fixed the problem.

Me too! I thought my typing had suddenly deteriorated till I realised what was happening. Doesn't seem to happen all the time, which is odd. I gave up on an email for a bit and then went back to it, not having closed it or anything, and things were back to normal.

I tried that fix. It seemed to work at first and then the problem came back so I undid it.

The odd thing is that it only happens occasionally when I'm emailing. I can stop trying to edit what i'm writing, go back to it a few minutes later and it's working again OK.

My issue was when i type in korean on FB. Only when i tried adding comments, space bar, comma, period would move the cursor to the very front of the line(sentence). But, after trying Sam's approach, i no longer have the prob. Thanks!!

I'm also having this problem. Very frustrating, as I type too quickly to catch it in most cases.

Yeah I'm seeing this as well (and thanks for replying to my thread too Alex). I'm seeing it only in Mail so far.

It's not restricted to Mail; also happens in Scrivener and just now as I was responding to this thread.

This is a way to circumvent this behavior by disabling it, not fix it. However, you can always manually type the curved apostrophes if need be.

I agree--this is not a fix, it just avoids the bug by turning off a feature of the program. I don't see it in Scrivener, and have only seen it in Mail. Started right after upgrading to Yosemite.
