Photo Screen Saver not functioning with Yosemite Upgrade

Recently I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Yosemite. I have always used a folder in iPhoto for my screen saver via system preferences. Ever since the upgrade this folder will no longer function as the screen saver. The screen saver option in System Preferences always defaults to Apples National Geographic photos that is installed with Yosemite. After I select the folder I want I "preview" the screen saver and my photos are there. Once the screen saver kicks itself in, the NG photos are there and the system settings are back to NG photos and not my photos. Now, I will admit the NG photos are far above my photos, but I really prefer my photos. Is Apple evaluating photo quality on the screen savers? Kidding - any ideas?

I installed OSX 10.10.3 this afternoon and wanted to see if it fixed the screensaver problems we've been having. This release also includes Photos (replaces iPhoto) and the screensaver preferences uses it to decide which photos to display when the screensaver is running. It lets you pick an album, year, etc., but not the last 12 months. Photos does let you create Smart Albums and you can easily create a "Last 12 Months" album. Once that album is created, you can select it in the screensaver preferences. So far (just a couple hours), it seems to be working. I haven't tried a restart yet to see if it remembers the setting.

Also finding that the upgrade to 10.10.3 has NOT fixed the issue. Actually, 10.10.3 also created some NEW bugs in the Finder, added to a bunch of other 10.10 bugs that Apple has yet to fix. I know Apple is really focused on the Apple Watch these days, but they must have at least ONE developer who's working on OS X bugs. It seems like Mac OS X is an afterthought for Apple, if a thought at all.

The same bug - I have 110GB of my own pictures I want to see as my screensaver, I go to System Preferences, Desktop & Screen Saver, choose any screensaver with pictures (usually Classic I prefer), set Source to either any folder or Photo Library (iPhoto before), and it works for a while. And then, some next random time, it switches back to the **** National Geographic. "Shuffle" on or off makes no difference. Repairing permissions in Disk Utility (like somebody suggested) makes no difference. Even a complete clean install to a totally new disk (SSD this time) made no difference. It worked great before Yosemite, was broken in 10.10, and now it does not work even in 10.10.3, with Photos (choosing a set of photos from Photos makes no difference, just as it did not with iPhoto).

How hard can it be to fix a simple bug in a simplest piece of OS possible? Steve Jobs would already fired all you guys long ago for that!

The MB Air seems pretty stable now so I decided to install 10.10.3 on our iMac. Photos is working although I had to find the iPhoto library for it because it isn't in the default location (which is <Home Directory>/Pictures). The option to select the "Photo Library..." isn't available in Screen Saver Preferences so I can't select any of the albums in Photos (see attached). Both are 10.10.3. I could try moving the iPhoto Library to the default location and see what happens. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jay
