About This Mac is showing wrong Storage information

When I look to see how much my App, Movies, Photos, Autos, and Backups the GB being listed is wrong. I have a 120 GB hard drive. My Apps are claiming to be 130.43 gb, Movies at 22.13 gb, Photos 18.48 gb, Audio 1.17 gb, Backups 217.9 mb. It states that I have 47.73 gb of 120.1 gb available. Is there a quick fix for this, or will Apple need to create a fix?

It has been my experience that when I turn off my local backup to my Apple Airport Time Capsule that the information will show correct. When it is turned back on, it will not show the correct information.

Not sure how frequently apple is looking at this discussion forum; it would be helpful if one of their techs can chime in and assist.

All I can say is turn off Time machine and that is the only solution I have found to work each time.

Wish apple would make it possible to have the Time Machine to show up separately in the window.

I am sure you are right NGHTHawk, it is a kind of time capsule, time machine glitch. The numbers showing in my 'about my mac storage' corresponded exactly to free space on Time Capsule for me. I still find Time Capsule confusing at times. Still not sure how it works really. When this one blows I will probably go for an off line solution. I reset time capsule and that stopped it for now. Anyway now I know that the storage is inaccurate anyway I won't use it!

Like NGHTHawk says below it is a time machine glitch of some kind. I reply to you because your number of TBs is exactly the same as mine. It was the amount of free space on my Time Capsule. I suppose on average a lot of users take up similar amounts of space, three machines for me all mostly running text files and a little bit of music and 'other'.

I am on 10.10.4 and it is not fixed for me.

I tried the spotlight indexing via spotlight preferences and privacy and that did not work.

I tried sudo mdutil -E / and that did not work - it just moved all my information into 'Other'!

I tried Erase Free Space and that did not work.

Any other suggestions? I cannot get my free space that is really free space back and About My Mac showing rubbish information,

I gave this a try, but It didn't solve my issue unfortunately. About this Mac still tells me I'm using 499.06 GB out of 500 GB, with 6.13 GB free space. I know for a fact that I have no where near this amount of data, as this is a brand new, mid-2015 15 inch Macbook Pro. I've barely had it for two months. Each time, OmniDisk Sweeper says the same thing, that I'm only using 99.7 GB as shown in the image. Has anyone else found another solution? User uploaded file
