New iTunes 12, not recognizing device?

I just updated to the new iTunes 12 but whenever I plug in my iPod touch 5 gen to my computer, it doesn't seem to pop up on iTunes. I'm assuming it's because it's not being recognized? When I still had the older version, my iPod did show up on iTunes but I can't seem to get it to show up on the new one. I know that on the new iTunes, the device should show up on the left side of the screen instead of the right side, but it doesn't show up. I've tried restarting the computer and my iPod but it doesn't help. I'd really like to get this thing working as soon as possible, thanks!

iPod touch (5th generation), iOS 8.0.2

I was having the same problem and I didn't think anyone had a clue why - such an simple solution!! THANKS🙂

uninstall itunes, then connect the iphone then go to control panel then devices and printers then click on iphone and uninstall the iphone driver then download and install itunes. This worked for me after trying a lot of other things that didn't work
