icon turned red after update to 12.0.1.26
My iTunes icon on my desktop turned red after I updated to 12.0.1.26. Does that mean something is wrong with my iTunes? It has never been red before.
Windows 8

I have this question too
I feel like it's a new thing. As I was restoring my iPhone 6 to an old iPhone 5 personal backup, it told me to connect the cable to iTunes (I think you know the image). In the image, the iTunes icon was red, so I assume it's just a new design. 🙂
My iTunes icon turned red as well after installation but when I tried to open it came back with an error say it was not installed correctly. Has anyone else had rhis problem?
It's not a fault. They have changed the color as part of the new design. Looks terribad, if you ask me.
That happened to me too, it said I had to install the English version (I've never had anything else) and I couldn't open itunes. I solved that problem after a lot of mucking about but the icon is still red.

As given, the red icon is by design.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Thanks turingtest2 for the link to the Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates. After following all the steps I was able to reimstall ITunes and get it working first time.
Thanks

I can't believe they made the icon red by design. Now my iTunes look like there is some error associated with it all the time. Bad idea. I hope they will fix this bug soon.
Just googling classic blue gave me a chance to change the icon to remove this stupid new icon. This update to version 12 just ruined my aspect to Apple and even more to iTunes. How does one drop back to older better designed and operating versions? I looked but could not be found unless I backup every version the idiots released.
If you really want to roll back to 11.4 uninstall all iTunes/Apple components, restore the pre-upgrade version of your library as described in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash, then download and install from one of these direct links:
If you have trouble uninstalling or reinstalling see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

When I upgraded iTunes last week, it crashed my whole system on restart the next morning, and I had to choose a system restore point and remove it. the icon did turn red, i noticed.
thereafter, it told me that itunes was not configured for my area, nor for english, so clearly it didn't restore that properly.
I downloaded the latest version today and installed it with trepidation, so far it is working.
I hope it will continue to do so tomorrow. It took about 20 mins to install in total, which seemed inordinate. My laptop isn't old, and it's tuned up well.
