Links not Working in Safari after Yosemite Upgrade

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I have noticed some problems with specific websites (si.com and macworld.com) while using Safari. Since upgrading, clicking on links on either site does nothing. I can right-click and open the link in a new tab, but a direct click causes nothing to happen. After verifying that it was not my installed extensions, I found an old answer that suggested disabling Javascript. Disabling Javascript appeared to resolve the issue.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues? If so, were you able to resolve without disabling Javascript? Is this an issue in Safari or something on the websites' side?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi ..

Might be a cookies or cache issue.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.

Click: Remove All Website Data

Then delete the cache.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db

Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.

Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

I was facing this issue on both Google search result pages and Facebook on a brand new 13" Retina MacBook (2015) running 10.10.3. At least for me, Safari seems to start returning server connection error messages either once I've had a given webpage active for an extended period of time (>5 minutes), or have performed some activity on the page--such as opening a link in a new tab.

i.e. On Google results pages, after opening a link, the rest of the links become inactive and return an inability to locate the server message. On Facebook, newsfeed images and images sent through the messenger windows fail to load after being on the page for greater than about five minutes. Ultimately, a refresh of the original page allows me to keep browsing (though it gets annoying when Safari presumably tries to reload the cached server response error message page corresponding to the link, rather than the Google page that linked to it).

This probably won't be a fix for everybody, but if you are on a laptop navigate to the "Stop plug-ins to save power" setting in the Advanced pane in Safari preferences (, --> Advanced), and uncheck it if it's checked. It seems that Apple automatically enables this setting, so it's something you have to manually disable after the fact. Unchecking the box appears to have resolved the issue for me, but I've only had it set as such for about an hour. I'll provide an update tomorrow to see if it stays fixed.

Dear Linc Davis, Thanks for your reply to telletran1. Based on your advise, I've discovered that the problem im experiencing with safari not opening websites is specific to the main admin user.

in the safe mode safari seems to operate perfectly.

I have carried out all instructions/suggestions made on this site and a few others, but the web pages just wont open.

So Far: i have deleted the caches, preferences, and cookies, removed all website data.

And still nothing.

Is there anyone out there that has an idea of how to resolve this problem? Please help.
