Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Yosemite made my MacBook Pro so slow. Need help.

I Upgraded my MBP (2012), from Mavericks to Yosemite and it slowed my computer down to the point where it became unusable. I repaired the permissions, and even reinstalled Yosemite but it didn't help. My MBP is crawling and I'm hoping someone can walk me through a solution. Need help.

I need help please. My MBP has been running very slow lately. Doesn't load websites quickly, if at all. It almost seems like I've downloaded something that may be running in the background, however not be a "computer wizard" I don't know where to begin to figure that out. Below are the results from the EtreCheck I ran just a few minutes ago. Any suggestions??

Thank you!

Jul 26, 2015 1:45 PM in response to petermac87

Hi Everyone,

I'm also having some pretty serious speed issues with my 2012 MacBook Pro, after updating to Yosemite. Thus far, I have checked and verified that FileVault is off, and also followed some guidance on how to speed up my MBP here: http://osxdaily.com/2014/10/24/speed-up-os-x-yosemite-mac/

I'm lost on what else I should do to get my MBP running fast again. Any advice would be much appreciated! Please see my EtreCheck report here below.

Thanks for your help with this!

Jul 26, 2015 3:17 PM in response to Surfario

Hello Surfario,

I suggest you start your own question. This one is 9 months old. I can tell from your EtreCheck report that you are running out of RAM. Even though you have 8 GB, whatever software you are using is taking up all of that. OS X manages its own memory. There is no way to "free" or "clean" it. You have to figure out where the usage is coming from. That will take some investigation and that should take place in your own thread. The final answer will probably be to upgrade to an SSD, but it would be nice to know exactly what where your RAM is going.

Sep 9, 2015 7:15 AM in response to Old Toad

Hi all, jumping in here with the same question. I have a mid2012 Macbook Pro and it has gotten progressively slower over the past year. Now practically unusable. I deleted a ton of stuff and freed up a lot of HD space and that didn't help. Don't have Filevault on so that's not the issue. I ran Etrecheck as someone suggested and here's what it said. The most worrisome red line is about the Drive Failure... It also looks like maybe I could use more RAM but I only have two slots and they each have 2 gigs but it looks like maybe I could but 4 gb in each instead.

Not sure what to do next - thanks for any suggestions..

Macintosh HD (disk1) / : 498.88 GB (90.84 GB free) - 71 errors

Drive failure!

Here's the entire thing
