Yosemite download is insanely slow (nothing wrong with my network)

Hi all, I'm trying to upgrade to Yosemite from Mavericks, or rather, I have been trying for the last 2 days. The download from the Mac store is crawling at a crazy slow rate. I've pulled about 1GB in 2 days now. It seems to get like 1MB downloaded every few minutes and the Mac Store progress says there's like 4 days left.

I've run all sorts of speed checks on my network and nothing is out of the ordinary, I can go off and download other files at over 1 MB/sec right now.

I'm at a loss as to what to do, there's not really any support for how to find out what's going on and I don't think there's anywhere other than the Mac Store I can download this from.

Does anyone else have experience with extremely slow, persisting issues with the Mac Store downloads? Any suggestions?

Thank you

For people living on the West coast (ex. Vancouver), switch your DNS server to the UK openDNS server. (84.45.85.23)

I am not sure why the UK server works, but it does. I am also not sure if this is safe, so change the address back to your previous address when you are done.

It took me about 1.5 hrs to download the OS.

(I am also using Telus, I hate it, but the plan is cheap.)

How can Apple do something about it when the problem is your ISP? Over here in Blighty where we still ride around on horses and chivalry is all the rage my ISP has my router blocked on big downloads and i use a VPN to get past the problem. I think if you are really stuck you can arrange to go to the genius bar and have one them smiley people help you.

It took 60 hours for Yosemite to download. It is installed and working fine. Went to connect my iPhone 6 to iTunes to update to OS X 8.1 and when it started, it said 24 hours remaining and I knew several of my friends updated in 15 minutes. I disconnected and called my internet provider and they came out and my computer is working fine. He told me it is happening everywhere and it is not their service, it is Apple. So just minimize your screen, have your screen saver running, go to Energy saver and move to never for both, and just let it download. You can continue to work on your computer and send and receive mail while this is going on. I don't have the fastest internet; but it is broadband. If I could have connected to a big company in our area, it would have only taken a couple of hours, so I was told. I was able to install OS X 8.1 on my phone in ten minutes, not connected to iTunes. Now having other problems. Having to update several of my applications. My printer can't be updated because they don't have one yet for Yosemite. They will notify me when they do. Good luck to all with slow download, I know how you feel.
