Powerpoint showing Greek letters on Yosemite?

Since I've upgraded to Yosemite, when I open a file in Microsoft Powerpoint 2011, all the letters come up as greek alphabet letters. If I open the same presentation in Keynote, it is fine. Also, there are some letters that appear normal but majority are greek. I have checked the language and it is set to UK English. Any help?

Figured it out.

The problem is with duplication within the Ariel font.

When installed in coordination with Office, for one reason or another, Ariel duplicates itself, presenting the Hebrew text.

Simply remove the duplication by going into Font Book and selecting remove within Ariel Black (there will be a duplicate Regular) and everything returns to normal.

JFuh, Thank you for the response and info; I am having the exact same problem. However, I don't really know how to do this properly and don't want to mess up system fonts. I went in to Font Book and did "Validate" on Arial (which was the one that turned to greek in Powerpoint). There were 2 of them, one of which showed in yellow. I guess I can assume that was the Microsoft one but how do I know? I don't want to delete the wrong font.

I also went in to /Library/Fonts/Microsoft and saw that all fonts there were dated 2012 (including arial.ttf) while the system ones in /Library/Fonts/ were more recent (2016). So I don't know if I just delete those in the Microsoft folder or if those are the ones marked in yellow when I run "validate".

So if possible, can someone please provide more details on actual steps.

Thanks for the reply - that does work BUT this was never a problem? When I select the text, it is in fact using Arial and changing to another font corrects it. But ANY Powerpoint (even those that used to work fine before the upgrade) by default loads the strange font. Any ideas why this may be? Thanks for your help so far!

Hi rockinaway....you probably have this sorted, I've recently had the same problem, all Powerpoints rendering this way with a crazy Symbol font.

But just for the record in case anyone else Googles this problem, this is still the first returned post.

I've found a workaround. You need to have a Arial in your font folder on your system folder and not managed by Suitcase Fusion.

so pathway is Mac HD>System>Library>Fonts (holds all the essential system fonts) make sure Arial is in this folder.
