Yosemite Mail not showing correct unread counts

Just upgraded to Yosemite, and some of my inboxes are not showing the correct unread counts in Mail.app.

When new mail comes in, the unread counts do not increment, even though the mail is showing in the inbox when I click to open it.

I have three accounts, all gmail, and two of the three do not work, while one does. They have identical server settings (besides different username/passwords).

I have tried:

  • Rebuilding the mailbox: This works, but only temporarily. The unread count will increase to the right number, but any mail that comes in after the rebuild will not increase the count further.
  • Deleting the envelope files in the library: My mailboxes were rebuilt, but the problem persisted
  • Removing and re-adding the accounts in System P

Hello, Having the same issues here with Yosemite and a Gmail account.

The inbox message count is sporadic with its unread count. It seems to function correctly when starting mail, hovever email that arrives later will not increment the unread count. The other gmail account works fine and has far less email in than the problematic one, I'm wondering if its struggling with size somehow.

And as if my magic, everything seems back to normal!

The only thing done apart from deleting and rebuilding the mailbox was to repair Disk Permissions.

There is an issue however with sent email with attachments not appearing in the sent folder which another user seems to have also.

Are you talking about in the sidebar (left side) or in the title bar (top of the window)?

If the latter, this seems to occur if you switch to view a smart folder, and then switch back. In some cases, the number will go away. Quitting and restarting Mail will fix it. The only way I think you can stop it happening at this point is to not use smart folders.

It's all numbers, actually. The sidebar numbers are the ones I look at most, but the title bar is wrong, as is the dock count number.

I'm not using any smart folders here -- just three different gmail IMAP accounts, viewing each inbox separately. One account works count-wise, the other two do not. Settings, as far as I can tell, are identical.
