Apple Pay Error Issuer Does Not Offer Support

When I try to setup Apple Pay it says "Your issuer does not yet offer support for this card".

When I click on Learn More it says that the following cards are accepted in Apple Pay:

  • American Express
  • Bank of America
  • Capital One Bank
  • Chase Visa
  • Citi
  • Merrill Lynch Credit
  • US Trust
  • Wells Fargo

My card is through Citibank, it even says "This Card Issued by Citibank" on the back of the card.

Why is this card not acceptable if its from Citibank and Apple Pay accepts Citi?

I'm afraid none of would know. We're all just users here. I'd contact Apple to ask 1-800-MY-APPLE

Are you using an actual credit card, or a debit card? Of course to make it easier, you could simply choose the card you have on file with your iTunes Account.

Chris,

I couldn't see any other thread referenced in your response. Nor did I find any other threads on this topic. Can you provide a URL? I beleive you. It makes a lot of sense. But I'd love to read what people are saying on the topic.

Oh, and Macy's who is touted as one of the important partners of the Apple Pay kickoff, yet I cannot register my Macy's AMEX!

I have the same issue:

I successfully registered a CHASE Mileage Plus VISA but am unable to register my CHASE Amazon.com VISA

I successfully registered a Costco American Express Card but am unable to register my Corporate American Express Card

I can understand that the corporate card may have an issue since my name shares space with my company's name ... the two CHASE cards are just different flavors of reward cards. Would Apple be purposefully blocking Amazon out of spite? 🙂 (I'm kidding, don't respond to that)

If you search here, you will find that the Amazon card will not work. That was Amazon's choice not to support Apple Pay, even though the card is branded as Chase.

Here is a list of current participants, and it states that some business cards may not work right away. The best way to verify if a card is going to work is to contact the card issuer. Apple Pay participating issuers

In the other thread that I referred to, posters had called Chase, who replied that branded cards can choose to opt out, even though the card is backed by the particular bank. Amazon has chosen to opt out, however one of the posters said that Chase was in talks to get Amazon to change their mind. I guess time will only tell.

Actually, Chase is not the only one like that. I believed something similar with Citibank. I have a Ford Service Credit card I got at the Ford dealership here in my local town. It is issues and backed by Citi. My son had an issue with his car and I sent him the info for my card and he was told by the Ford dealer there that they do not accept it. Dealers can opt in or out to support the card, despite the fact that it is supported by a major bank/credit card issuer. So none of this is a surprise to me.

I have a Citi Co-Branded Card and it says it's supported but still doesn't allow me to use it.

Who am I supposed to call? Apple or Citi?

In my case my local bank "University Federal Credit Union", supports both debit and credit cards issued by them on ApplePay however I get the same error. The bank states they never even see the card get added or get a request to provision the card for ApplePay. Contact Apple and I get sent to a senior specialist and was told they would get back to me. 3 months now and I never heard back from Apple, Bank states they have no idea whats going on and keeps telling to talk to Appler or suggest trying a different card. Tried my Capital One card and it worked fine. Now the bank wants to issue new cards to me to try again but I will be without a card for a day or two. I'll give that a shot but I am pretty disappointed that Apple failed to do anything to assist on this issue.
