Text message forwarding - no code on iPad or Mac

Hi,

I've just installed iOS 8.1 on my iPhone and iPad. I'd like to set up text message forwarding, but when iPhone ask me to enter the code shown on my iPad or Mac - no code is showed on both.

iPad, iOS 8

I too found that the solution works (the solution posted in the first message in this thread), but it reminds of the ouroboros, the mythical snake that's always chasing its own tail.

The problem is that I employ this solution about once a month, when my peaceful iCloud/iMessages interconnectivity all come crumbling down. I don't know what causes it, so it's frustrating when trying to troubleshoot. I go through and revoke all my application-specific passwords, assign new ones, turn everything back on, enter the Text Message Forwarding codes on my various Macs (three) and iPads (four), rinse and repeat. I will be back on here in another month for reasons that I can't explain, but I roll with the punches.

It just works...once a month.

I have been fighting the "no code shows up on the iPad" issue for days.

Tried every solution in this thread and several others.

I had noticed that I used mixed case in my Apple ID, but not in my text linked e-mail addresses.

Finally tonight I logged out of my Apple ID on both devices again, but logged back in with my Apple ID in lowercase.

Code pops right up and forwarding is now working.

Something else to try before you reach for the hammer.

I tried all of the solutions here and none of them worked. iMessage was working fine, but no regular SMS messages were forwarding to my iPad, and the code never appeared on my iPad when I turned on the forwarding option in my iPhone settings.

What fixed it for me...

I sent a test message from my iPad to... myself. It took much longer than usual to send, but once it did, I saw a backlog of the codes appearing and disappearing on my iPad, and finally it gave me the option (from my iPad) to enable the text message forwarding, along with a code. I looked at my iPhone, and a prompt was waiting for the code. Typed in the code, all is good now. SMS forwarding finally works!

So, if one of your devices using iMessage won't show the code for SMS forwarding, send yourself a message from that device.

Messages "Text Message Forwarding" is not showing the verification code in Messages on computer:

If this solution solves your problem, please send me a quick email to let me know if it works for others: DannyBoy888888@icloud.com

ON YOUR COMPUTER:

1. Messages (Computer): Preferences: Accounts: Apple ID: Enable this account.

2. Messages (Computer): Preferences: Accounts: You can be reached for messages at: (Select your phone number).

3. Messages (Computer): Quit Messages on your computer, and do not reopen it on your own. It will automatically launch when the Verification Code is initiated from your iPhone or iPad.

4. Apple Menu (Computer): System Preferences: iCloud: Keychain (Ensure that Keychain is checked, and that it does not say "pending.")

ON THE INTERNET:

5. Verify that you have the correct cell phone number entered at: https://appleid.apple.com

a. Manage Your Apple ID: Phone Number: Mobile Phone (Verify that your cell phone number is correctly entered).

ON YOUR IPHONE OR IPAD:

6. Turn on Keychain on your iPhone or iPad.

a. Settings (iPhone or iPad): iCloud: Keychain (Ensure that it says "On").

b. Settings (iPhone or iPad): Messages: Text Message Forwarding: (Select your Mac).

7. If Messages (Computer) automatically launches by itself, after you initiate step 6b, then you have successfully selected the correct device. If iMessages does not automatically launch, then it is very likely that you have selected the wrong device.

Ok, I tried everything (AND I MEAN EVERYTHING) in this posting and nothing worked. Finally a light bulb went off and I remembered getting a SPAM sales phone call for credit card rate reduction that used MY Caller ID. Tired of those $(#%*'s calling me, spoofing my Caller ID, I decided to block my phone number so they couldn't contact me. Well, as it turns out, this kept me from sync'ing my iMac and iPad with Text Message Forwarding as well as I would not see my side of a conversation on "other" devices (only the original responding device). By unblocking my number (full contact info), I am back in business. If you've tried everything listed here and you're still not working, you might check to see if in a fit of rage you blocked your own number from SPAMMERs!
