I updated my iPhone 5s to iOS 8.1 but the toggle to switch between LTE , 3G and 2G not exist and is described on the update list ?
I updated my iPhone via OTA if that the reason ?

Its problem with Airtel, switch your sim to vodafone or other network which doesn't have LTE and you will have the toggles as soon as sim card is recognized. U needn't reset anything.
I to have same problem with Airtel in Bangalore.
The only solution is to swap to a older 2g sim.
Netherlands - iPhone 5 with IOS 8.1 on Vodafone.. no 2G/3G/4G option, just enable/disable 4G..
Vodafone support says thet 'don`t know' about it or simply gives an answer to a different question (evasive manoeuvres ftw!)
Maybe because the iPhone 5 only supports lte on specific networks?

its pretty simple... the options in the mobile data menu with the lte or 3g switch are different for iphone 5(on most networks) compared to the iphone 5s and 6 because on most networks the iPhone 5 is not able to use lte

I have the same problem, I bought iphone 4s (IOS 8.1) last week and i subscribe to UAE etisalat carrier mobile data plan, i cannot access to mobile data internet because my carrier was still AT&T. There is no toggle for 3g & 4g also. I tried to called Etisalat carrier and inform me that i should contact Iphone service directly.

Hi All,
I am facing the issue with Iphone 6s . In my home the 3 G coverage is really poor , so i need to be on 2 G . Though i have an option to select 2G / 3G / LTE. . The worst part is i need if i have selected 3 G and the coverage is poor i get call failed issue , so manually need to select 2 G and this is cumbersome. I just changed from Android a few days back . Is there a solution people?

Yes, I also have the same problem. my iphone 6 is ios8.1 and only open 4G why? My location is Saudi Arabia and my operator name is Mobily. Please fix the problem ...
Apple say:
"New option allows you to select between 2G, 3G or LTE networks for cellular data"
Maybe this option not appear if you update via OTA ?
I rebooted my iPhone several times and the option still not appear
Just tried using iTunes to restore to 8.1 after OTA update still nothing. But my friend has a iPhone 6 Plus and it works fine. Come on Apple!!
Well thats unfortunate. I hope they don't do that otherwise I won't have any service at my house!!

I contacted AT&T support about it and they wouldn't say anything except restore your iPhone. I hate AT&T so much
Hate aside, I'm curious why 2G/3G is important to you? Do you not line in the US, where LTE service is just about everywhere?
Well lets just say AT&T doesn't have the best service where I live and I could save battery by not having my iPhone scanning for LTE signal when there is none
I am surprised how screwy this feature is, it would be super useful if this feature worked haha. I feel like we will all have to wait for a carrier update unfortunately
