No 2G,3G,4G toggle after IOS 8.1 Update

I got very excited when looking at the list of items included in IOS 8.1 update this evening. One of the things on the list has been greatly missed, the toggle to switch off 3G and run on 2G only. After the update..... options are exactly the same. Cellular Data on or off, Enable 4G on or off. I should say I am on EE 3G in the UK.

Does anyone else have a different result after the update????

All I want to say is thank you thank you to you guys who are prepared to push Apple/carriers on this issue. I'm still fighting BT for a new router as my infinity wireless is playing up and so don't feel I've got the energy left to hassle Apple as well. I did try Apple and my network O2 (on the issue of poor signal strength on my 6 compared with my daughter's 5s and husband's 4s, neither on iOS8 versions, but I got nowhere - and yes, I converted the phone to use field signal numbers so it was accurate). So I'm exhausted. Thanks again and I'll eagerly await your updates (Apple's I'm not holding my breath).

Firstly I would like to thank Rob again for all of his effort chasing Apple on this issue. I made the original post but Rob has persisted with it, I notice nobody from Apple has commented? Are they able to? Do they ever? When I saw the original note in the release info, I was happy to see that they had finally seen common sense! I used it to save battery life and kept my phone running on 2G unless I needed the faster internet and turned 3G on. If the battery life of our wonderful Apple devices was better we maybe wouldn't have such a need for this!!

Oh well, wishful thinking I guess!

Why not switch to microdots ??

Microdot may refer to:

  • Microdot, reduced size text or photographic images
  • Microdot (car), a concept hybrid city car designed by William Towns in 1976
  • A street name for LSD or PMA in pill form
  • Microdot (connector), a series of connectors by Tyco Electronics
  • Microdot, a graphic design company founded by Brian Cannon

Has anyone got any updates on a fix for this problem?

In the family we have 4 x 5s on Vodafone UK and live in an area where the nearest 3G signal of any use is some 20 miles away. so now we have 4 phones that are practically unusable for voice calls. When we do pick up a 3G signal the calls sound as though they are being made from underwater and drop out in under a minute.

Vodafone say it is down to Apple and apple say it is down to the carrier to resolve.

and?

2G, 3G, 4G LTE have nothing to do with voice calls.

They are for data.
