safari iOS 8.1 freeze and slow

Hello,

i have same problems with ios 8.1 with my Ipad3. when the Google search shows me the results, the blue links does not respond when I tap. Safari was as if frozen. I have to drag the page up or down so that the link becomes active again. Further the application is very slow. Today I tried iPad Air it was same thing !!!!

the problem persists since updating iOS8.0.0. I am very disappointed with Apple.

After installing ios8 and its itterations on my devices it took me litterally 5 minutes to see there were basic functionality problems. It is inconceivable that Apple were unaware of these basic problems, but they went ahead anyway and released the OS. I would like to bet there is an internal war raging between the marketers and the computer experts. The marketers insist on release due to market pressures but the computer people must have been well aware that this was going to end in tears.

As a computer systems designer from way back i have seen it all before, but not on such a scale due to the enormous influence and market penetration of Apple. ccompanies like Apple produce highly technical products and senior management need a solid technical background. All we can do is hope Apple management change tack and concentrate on reliability and quality and not rrush headlong to release new products before they are ready.

It's not a hack (or how would i know). The money just ends up in to some "safe state" according to my bank and it will eventually end up to the merchant. But this will take time and i will be without that money until that. And all the effort and time i have to spend solving these cases just kills me. It seems that the Safari is the one having the most issues in the ios8. Have to use Chrome until a fix appears...

iOS 8.1.2 Update Released with Bug Fixes [IPSW Direct Download Links]

Posted: 09 Dec 2014 10:57 AM PST

Apple has released iOS 8.1.2 update for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users. The small update weighs in around 35MB and focuses primarily on bug fixes, most of which are unspecified, though a specific issue for iPhone users where ringtones and text tones would disappear is mentioned in the download notes. Users who are or ... Read More

Installed 8.1.2 this morning, however nothing has changed. While I have not experienced the same depth of issues as several others in this thread, Safari is definitely slow and almost unusable ever since iOS 8. Especially it has to reload and render each tab every time I switch tab, or application. This makes working on the iPad very difficult.

Yesterday I tried other tips in this thread, resetting all settings, network settings, safari cache etc. Nothing has made a single improvement so far. I guess I'll be waiting for 8.1.3 then... 😟

iPad Mini, 1:st gen. iOS 8.1.2.

8.1.2 seems to have solved my problem with Safari of blocky content when scrolling - I.e it didn't seem to be able to keep up rendering the screen when scrolling resulting in lots of whitespace until it catches up. The problem I had with links not being active unless you scrolled the page up/down a tad seemed to be solved in 8.1.1, though there still seems to be no feedback when hitting a link (I.e link highlighted or underlined or whatever).

I still get issues with the page being reloaded too (can't remember the exact error though it seems to happen on Facebook a lot when scrolling).

Thanks Jeff12. I followed your simple steps of clearing the history and web data...

1) Settings -> Safari -> Clear History and Website Data

2) Turn off the device (hold the power button and slide to turn off) and turn it back on

On reboot I noticed immediate improvement in Safari functionality, including

  • no page freezes or 'dead' links
  • increased page load speed
  • increased speed when switching between apps
  • no more loss of unsaved data during app switch (ex: typing in FB then switch to Safari and back, my unposted comments are still there)

I was about to follow ST's very detailed process but decided to try all the easier fixes that were suggested first, and started with yours. I'm thinking there's no one guaranteed solution for everyone as it depends on what went wrong on each individual iPad during the iOS 8 upgrade. Just glad the short fix was in my path.

Feels good to have my iPad back!! Thx

*Note: bookmark all open Safari windows/tabs you want to save before clearing the history or browsing data

QIyla,

Nothing went 'wrong' with people's downloads - the software is faulty, simple as that.

If all people had to do was 'clear their cache' or something equally obvious to a child, never mind an adult, then none of these problems would exist.

the fact is, IOS8.1+ on anything older than the latest A7 chips will run mind-numbingly slow.

Safari is an absolute joke on my device now. I could make a cup of tea in the time it takes for a page to load...

I am having this issue on my Apple devices as well, the new update unfortunately has not improved things for me. Especially the iPad 3's performance is really terrible since upgrading from iOS 7 to any of the iOS 8 versions. Said iPad was still running really smooth before the updates (with the exception of a couple of more demanding games), now it is a pain to use it at all. Performance on my new iPad Air 2 is better but not nearly as smooth as iOS once was.

I was going keep the iPad 3 because of its cellular feature (got the new one wifi only), but the way things are at the moment it won't be of much use to me. If only we were allowed to go back to iOS 7...

Performance of my iPhone 5s also decreased since upgrading, but since I'm not using it as much as my iPads I don't suffer as badly using it;-)

Maybe it is time to get back on my old iPhone 4, which still runs an older iOS;-) But seriously, this glitch totally ruins the Apple experience I am used to, and while I understand that some bugs are difficult to fix quickly, it would be nice to be given a chance to "downgrade" for the time being, especially our "older" devices...

Dec 11, 2014 1:09 PM in response to tom_eastcoast

Thanks for your reply, tom_eastcoast, I doubt it is my router though. The things that do work and require wifi are really fast on the Air 2, a lot faster than they ever were on my iPad 3 or any of my iPhones. The overall experience though is less smooth even on the new iPad because of the random stalls and responsiveness issues. For example, I was able to type my first post just fine without delays/stalls/freezes but already had 2 while typing this, for no obvious reason at all. I even closed all additional tabs before starting, so excessive use of tabs can't be the reason either. On the iPad 3 it would probably take me an hour to type a few lines of text using Safari;-)

I am absolutely sure that it is a software issue, which lets me hope it can and will be fixed, hopefully soon!
