Hello,

i have same problems with ios 8.1 with my Ipad3. when the Google search shows me the results, the blue links does not respond when I tap. Safari was as if frozen. I have to drag the page up or down so that the link becomes active again. Further the application is very slow. Today I tried iPad Air it was same thing !!!!

the problem persists since updating iOS8.0.0. I am very disappointed with Apple.

I am very disappointed with Apple. 8.1 Safari is a huge blunder and a Apple should bury their head in the sand after releasing this sorry excuse of a browser. I am going to give Apple 2 weeks to get this disaster fixed, and if they don't fix it, I will be forced to pull all my iPads that my service and install techs are currently using and replace them with a different product.

  1. THe sad fact is that ios8 will not run smoothly on any device with a processor below an A7. There are major bugs in Safari that appear on all devices, such as pages reloading, but they are far less annoying on the faster processors as they recover quickly and very rarely totally freeze.
  2. gen1 ipad minis with A5 processors and ios8 installed are still being sold so Apple have a duty to fix these problems but seem unwilling or incapable of doing the right thing.

Hi Geoff, picking up on your point about Apple still flogging iPad 1 minis on their store.

Here's what they have to say about the A5 chip; Powerful processing and fast graphics make everything quick, from launching apps to browsing the web. And its power-efficient design delivers up to 10 hours of battery life.

Well, what does that say about Apple?

If I were in the States I'd want to be part of any class action against Apple for misleading me into buying an iPad 1 mini,

Hi Geoff,

Actually this isn't true - I have just purchased two new iPhone 5c's with A6 processors for my daughters and they run smooth and with no problems - there is something not optimised for the A5 chip - in my experience anyway.

I have a 5S phone and that flies - like you say the faster processors could just be hiding the inefficient code.

I have a vision impairment so use the built in Voice Over feature in ios. This puts extra load on the cpu.

Devices with an A5 or A6 chip worked well withVoice Over and ios7 but are almost unusable with ios8, the slow responses clearly show the older chips are struggling with ios8.

My mini with A7 chip works reasonably smoothly, but has the usual Safari bugs.

I guess it depends what the ipad is used for and what performance expectations are.i wonder how many gen1 minis have been returned as faulty?

I fixed my WiFi problems on Xfinity. There is a problem with one or more settings in their modem that makes the Apple devices freeze up in Safari. Luckily, Comcast changed it from the factory defaults, so you can go back pretty easy. No changes on the Apple side.

1) Unplug the power from your personal router.

2) Press the reset button on the back of your still-running Xfinity modem with a pen for a good long and slow count of 30 seconds, then let go. This will load the factory defaults.

3) Go away for at least 5 minutes, more if possible.

4) Plug your personal router back in.

THats it. Before, Safari would get stuck loading pages, getting worse and worse until it would stop responding. I'd have to cycle power on my routers just to get anything for an hour or so. After, it's been working great for weeks now.

Can I assume, from the lack of further postings, that everyone is now accepting/happy with the degraded performance iOS 8.x has brought to our devices?

I wish I could be so forgiving! - It's just that every time I use my iPad to surf the web it just opens up old wounds!

I guess all the execs at Apple must believe " WE'RE BIG and you're small" and that's the natural order of things?
