safari iOS 8.1 freeze and slow

Hello,

i have same problems with ios 8.1 with my Ipad3. when the Google search shows me the results, the blue links does not respond when I tap. Safari was as if frozen. I have to drag the page up or down so that the link becomes active again. Further the application is very slow. Today I tried iPad Air it was same thing !!!!

the problem persists since updating iOS8.0.0. I am very disappointed with Apple.

excuse me for my english, I am french.

iPad Air wifi and cellular first generation... excellent under ios7.x, amazed at how I lived without one for so long. Under ios8, just want to smash the piece of **** over my knee. Back on topic to the original poster, yes, exactly the same observations with Safari and freezing search results/stops responding. Now typing this via Chrome which is much more responsive that said Safari in ios 8.1. IPad overall horrendously slow however.

Same problem here with iOS 8.1 on an iPad Mini first generation.

Safari keeps freezing, quitting it and reopening still keeps it at a freezing state, so that the only remedy was to completely reboot the iPad. I have done that numerous times now and it gets very annoying. Also often times links are just not responding and I have to tap them 3,4,5 or more times, before something happens.

Also very annoying: Safari constantly reloads any tab, that I switch to, even if it is only a text based forum page. I tried to quit all apps on the iPad and Safari will still reload tabs all the time, when I switch to them. So that can't be a memory problem, but it seems to be a "feature".

My iPad mini came with iOS 6. It ran snappy and fast with that and had a battery life of 12 hours+. On iOS 7, it still seemed to run fine, but the battery life was down to a mere 8-9 hours. With iOS 8.1 I am back to around 9-10 hours of battery life. Hopefully 8.2 and the following updates will increase battery life even more again and fix the Safari issues!

Same problem(s) for me...have an iPad air which was working perfectly well on iOS 7. Since update to iOS 8 I have following issues;

- Safari is running so slowly! Freezes on Google search and won't let me select any of search results

- Multi-gesture is intermittent.

- Whilst using the iPad it occasionally just decides to turn off! Apple logo comes up on blank screen then goes back to passcode page?

What was an amazing product is now dogged by this awful update. I have updated to 8.1 also and nothing has changed!

Sort sort it out Apple or let me go back to iOS 7!!!!!

i have iPad Air. Safari has been so balky and slow since 8.0. Upgrades have done nothing to fix it. I have had to use Chrome. No resets, clearing of cookies etc, or any other fixes has changed the trouble. After a reset I get one free useable search and then the problems begin anew. How can Apple not be acknowledging this crippling problem. I left PC world a couple of years ago seeking a more reliable home use computer world. I had more than 20 years of pc hassles but never had such a basic failure without a fix available.

I would like to buy an air 2 but I cannot pass the air off to my wife. She has an iPad 3 which I might trade in. I did not put ios8 into it because of the problems that will develop. I cannot give my less technical wife an iPad that needs to be readjusted all the time so that she can use safari. When I turn off Java script, I get tiny font in safarI. I get web sites that require javascript. I cannot ask her to turn JavaScript on and off to get safari to function. Do I need to restore iPad air tho factory and then restore from backup HOPING for a fix? That's a lot of time fraught with peril. No guarantee of success. Apple needs to acknowledge the problem and get a fix for it.

I have the iPad Air 2 - sounds like the same issues. In Safari, the buttons on the edges require multiple taps - sometimes fairly hard- to respond. I took my original purchase back - one of the Geniuses acknowledged the problem and gave me a replacement, assuring me there was no need to test it out first. Surprise! Got it home - same issues. I had similar issues with my iPad 2 - after loading in IOS 8. I saw on another post someone with the same problems with the Air 2. Does this sound like a software defect? Its really a shame - seriously undermines my confidence in the brand. Anyone have a solution? Hello Apple - I know you monitor these. When will this be addressed?

I'm truly a brand-agnostic user (with multiple iPhones and iPads, along with a Samsung laptop). Up until this version upgrade (the whole iOS 8 series), I've been a very happy user of Apple products. I'm also a very experienced IT systems analyst, and I must say that the iOS 8 update is by far the most disastrous OS update I have ever seen. I feel sorry for the non-technical users who are desperately looking for any solution.

I've tried all of the solutions suggested by multiple well-meaning users (hey, has anybody seen a suggested set of fixes by Apple?!...me neither). There have been SOME improvements, but the Safari problems (actually ALL the browsers are affected under iOS 8) persist, with fatal screen freezes, absurd typing delays, and other problems. It is ridiculous that users are being advised to spend hours and even days of reset/restore/or total reload app by app. I'm done with the amateur hour goofiness. Yes, I have a solution...I'm checking out Surface Pro 3.

FInally got in on a live chat last night and the first guy said "Patches" are in the process. Then locked up. Second guy asked more questions, was in the process of transferring to a "Senior Advisor" when it locked up the second time. They didn't believe the problems that we are having with 2 iPad minis! Lol!

so think we'll just go to the Surface Pro 3! Going to try again on Monday one more time, but don't expect much!

Bought the iPad Air 2 two days ago and have had safari freeze up about a half a dozen times. My biggest gripe with Apple is they usually do not acknowledge anything as an issue until the mainstream media reports it. Hopefully they realize there is something wrong with safari in IOS 8 and above. I was not having issues with my 2+ year old iPad 4 that was still running iOS 7.1.2

Shame, cause this iPad air 2 is lightning fast in safari when it works, very close to desktop browser speed that my windows i7 machine provdes.

Throw in the noise vibration issue, and I am about to return it and wait for next gen or some sort of fix. This is really bull&*^t o have these issues with a 700 dollar device that is less than week old, especially since a return for a new one probably will not fix it.

Apple has apparently chosen to stonewall the disastrous problems with iOS 8 (and all its upgrades, including 8.1). Some people have reported partial improvement in some functions, but those of us with substantial technical expertise see that there are truly major problems with this OS. My advice is to hang in there until iOS 8.2 comes out to see if the problems have been corrected. But honestly, I've tried ALL the suggested/recommended procedures of the more experienced users here (sadly, APPLE offers NO acknowledgement and no solutions), and the improvements are unsatisfactory. Absurd. Shameful. A waste of valuable time.

If you're into conspiracy theories, then yes you'll believe the press is complicit in covering it up ... LOL ...

BUT ... the actual fact of the matter is that the press isn't reporting "the disaster" because there is no disaster ... only a very few out of the overall installed user base ... having any major problems!

Of course to the very few who are having some major problems ... it seems like a 100% to them ... :-) ...

Nov 3, 2014 8:53 PM in response to Jeff 12

Neither my Safari or my Internet or my iPad is slow with iOS 8.1 ... for me ... and neither is it for the vast and overwhelming majority of iPad users ... which is exactly why you don't see a whole slew of news articles from various press agencies about "the disaster" ... :-) ...

It's only a disaster to the person who has a major problem. It's like having a flat tire ... it's never a problem for people UNLESS they have one ... then they have it 100% ... LOL ...
