Q: iOS 8.1 : copy and paste still not working normally

Most of the time, copying and pasting between apps give wrong results: when pasting, I get an older version of the clipboard, even after having done 2 factory resets. Does anyone has the same problem? I own an iPad mini first generation.

IIt's been this way since 8.0.0. Yep, not addressed in 8.0.1 or 8.0.2 or 8.1.

i Can find no work around at all. So very frustrating on my iPad 2 which I have done multiple factory resets on. I just want to get back to work.

please, if anyone knows a cure, since we can't go back to 7x, please help

The only workaround I found is to copy 3 times in a row what you want to paste. Why 3 times I don't know but it works. For you also?

I tried this...    Select All, Copy....  Select All, Copy...   Select All, Copy...       PASTE....  TA-DAH!   It worked!

Not sure if it works every time, but it worked THIS time....

    Thanks!

Me too. CHROME seems to be working most of the time, but Safari I may get one good copy, then it goes back to an older copy/paste item.  It happens some with Chrome too, but not as often. I have never felt like going back to Windows until now. This is beyond frustrating, and a great waste of time!

I have had this same issue since the upgrade to 8.0 on my iPad 2. I have not "counted" the number of copies it takes before a paste "works", but three seems to be close. I find myself copying text between different app and from the iPad Notes app. It's as if the "buffer" than holds the "last copy text" is hard to replace (and therefore multiple copy attempts). This sure looks like a bug to me and hope it can be fixed soon. It make trying to do work on the iPad very difficult...

copying 3 times doesn't work for me, i'm at attempt 15 (i think... i dunno, i lost track) maybe if i rub my belly, pat my head, recite pi to 100000th digit, solve a Rubik's cube blindfolded, while jumping on one foot and spinning in a circle. Maybe, just MAYBE, then copy and paste will work..... nope, still didn't work.

But yea, having this problem since 8.0, becoming very annoying when attempting to use my so-called "smart phone" that has trouble with even the simplest of functions like copy and paste....

and a hard reset doesn't work either, please don't insult me by asking me to do that...for the 5000th time...

I'm really really frustrated myself.  It's hit or miss!    3 times, 5 times, etc.   Dunno how many times.   I did it over 20 (lost count!) one day and was never able to copy/paste.

I think it has something to do with the number of tabs open, and whether the tab you opened that you are trying to paste into was opened first.

I can't figure out a pattern, nor can I find any work-around that works every time.

I would be curious to see if clearing the clipboard first ... changes what happens when doing your copy and paste, afterwards.

I installed the app...   It cleared the clipboard....   I tried to PASTE into URL field on Safari - nothing to paste!  That was good.

I next copied the URL from one Safari page I had open, switched to another tab in Safari, hit PASTE...
It pasted a URL from days ago....

Cleared again...    It would not let me hit PASTE - but the next copy I made, pasted the same URL from at least 2 days ago.

A reboot, a hard reset - all leaves it on there, until that clipboard does finally get replaced with something else.

My best guess on this one is that there is a corrupted file here or a collection of corrupted files ... perhaps some that should have been deleted but somehow that process is not happening. The fact that it shows clear at one time and then shows up some older information at another time ... Is definitely a sign of corrupted or misplaced files. And in that case, it's only going to be fixed by the software engineers.

As to why it's happening on only some iOS devices and not others has to be related to the different hardware involved, along with the differing code required for the different hardware, along with some possibly obscure interactions of other processes that the user has activated on their particular iPad.

Of the 100+ iPad 2 devices my people have come in contact with since the upgrade, every single one of them will do it. So, while it may be "some" for you, it's "ALL" of the ones we have seen. We have been able to demonstrate it every single time on iPad2.   It does it on the brand new (refurb) one we purchased that we installed iOS 8.1 on out of the box too.

THAT would be the key item there ... and that would be the machine I would use as a basis for a solution ... and then work it with Apple under their AppleCare service. It's exactly at this point and with this particular machine that it's going to get solved.

This problem ... however ... is not universal as we can see other users here on this forum reporting that everything is fine for them on their iPad 2 models. See user "Barry Hemphill" and "imobl" on the following thread ... from today ...
