iOS 8.1 : copy and paste still not working normally

Most of the time, copying and pasting between apps give wrong results: when pasting, I get an older version of the clipboard, even after having done 2 factory resets. Does anyone has the same problem? I own an iPad mini first generation.

No ... Apple has official channels for that. This is only "users helping other users" and nothing more. Here are the official channels for letting Apple know ...

No ... because Apple sells the iPad 2 models on their online store website and you can get one TODAY and choose the 2-year AppleCare contract and Apple will fully back you up on that iPad 2 for the full two years ... :-) ... that's the same GUARANTEE you get on any other model!

I beg to differ, as a person who has purchased the iPad 2 refurb offline, and representing several others who have done the same thing... You will get a new iPad2, you will get the warranty, but you won't get your copy/paste fixed at all if you choose to upgrade that iPad 2 to iOS 8.1

When 8.1.1 comes out, maybe we will get the copy/paste issue fixed, maybe it will be faster, but from the video comparison of the iPhones side-by-side with the beta and 8.1 loaded on them, don't get your hopes up on that speed.

If you do buy an iPad 2 refurb, and it does happen to come with 7.1 on it like all of them that we have purchased so far have - DO NOT UPGRADE IT to 8.1 (or the soon to be released 8.1.1) until we see these issues fixed once and for all.

You actually can't say that's true for everyone, since I showed on this thread where there were two other iPad 2 owners today who had no problems.

I had a meeting the other night where I was the keynote speaker. I mentioned this update issue in examples of poorly executed rollouts, and it turns out that there were many people who claimed they had no problem at all with their iPad 2... The fun part was showing them they did. Somewhere between 15 and 20 people said they didn't have any problem at all. I just asked them all to step through it with me on the copy/paste. Turns out they all did. They just had not witnessed it. I even had an apology from one of them today in email, the one that called me out and said I was an Apple hater. Which is odd, because I seem to own a lot of Apple products to be a "hater". I'm just a realist.

John,

I agree with your comments. The quick answer with most users is that they don't have a particular problem. The reason is that 95% of the users only use about 5% of the functionality on a device. I still think there is a strong possibility that this issue is local to the iPad 2. I hope this new version will fix the problem. Does anyone know when it might be available? Also, is there confirmation from Apple that they recognize that there is a problem...?

Try doing the copy proceedure twice then paste. Tap the text to make it turn blue. Tap copy. Tap the screen to get rid of the blue. Tap the text to make it turn blue. Tap copy. See if it pastes correctly now.

I wish it were that easy.... Sometimes, you can do it 2 or 3 times and it might work... After trying an app yesterday that Star Traveler suggested, I got very involved in trying to figure out just how many times it took. It seemed hung with something from 2 days prior.

I used an app to clear the clipboard. Still there.

I rebooted... nope, still there.

I hard reset it - it came back up with it still there.

I tried SELECTING ALL and copying 3 times.... still there.

I tried it 10 times - still there.

I tried it 20 times (honestly, I may have only tried 18 or 19, or maybe 21 or 22 - I lost count) - still there.

Then I got determined.... I closed out all tabs, opened two new ones to two sites - google search and facebook.

I copied a URL and tried to paste to my timeline.... it pasted the old one.

I highlighted and select-all over 50 times...... I didn't count exactly, it may have been 45 or 55.. somewhere close to 50. (I get distracted easily).

I pasted to my timeline, that time it got it.

I closed the tabs, opened two more... Facebook and Google.... I copied a site and the 3rd time I copied it, it pasted fine.

I did it again... it worked again, with 4 times (3 didn't do it that time).

I tried again... it did it on 3.

Three is a magic number, but somewhere in there, the clipboard gets "stuck" and it takes a miracle to overwrite it.

I now have 18 iPad 2's at my disposal at my office - all exhibit the same issue with 8.1.
I have a new/refurb that came from Apple - it came with 7.1 and we upgraded it to 8.1 - it has the problem.

We have iPad 2's with 7.1 on them - they work fine! Shame none of them have Verizon broadband on them or I would take one of them and give up my own.

iPad 2s are the worst culprits, but it also happens on iPad 3 and iPad mini too.... We just happen to have more clients with iPad 2s

Can someone confirm whether this is mainly an iPad 2 problem? The OP said they had an iPad mini first generation, which I think is of similar vintage to iPad 4, isn't it?

I haven't seen it on any of our iPad 4's, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if few of them even knew you could copy and paste, let alone use it enough times to notice this. I use it a lot, and haven't seen it.

THAT works... EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. so far! I'll test it some more and if it seems that can be a usable work-around I will be emailing a huge group of lawyers that my business offers support for. That's the number 2 complaint about iOS 8x by these guys.

It won't help them with copying the URL's that they open directly, but good golly, it will help tremendously!

Thank you!
