Bootcamp gone haywire after Yosemite update

Hello

I recently updated my Macbook Pro to OS X Yosemite 10.10, and as a result, my bootcamp (Windows 7, 64-Home edition) is now gone.

I have tried to follow many of the discussions posted already but non seem to have a clear solution to my issue. I ve had no problem with Bootcamp before with the Lion and Maverick updates, but this time my guess is that the problem probably lies in the fact that I re-sized my partitions using a window software.

Basically the current situation is my Bootcamp no longer appears when I press Alt on start-up.

Upon checking my partition through Disk Utility, here is what I see:

User uploaded file

So you see that not only Bootcamp is now changed into disk0s4, there is also a gap of hard drive space that is not used by either Mac or Windows.

I have tried the sudo MBR method but I always encounter errors despite I followed word for word on other discussions. I think they likely have a slight different situation than mine? Here is a sample of my Diskutil List: (I saw a guy with a fifth item listed as Basic Data Bootcamp, but I don't have that line...)

diskutil list

4: Microsoft Basic Data 200.8 GB disk0s4

Please see the changes. Reboot after this. Run the dd command and make sure you can see "R.NTFS" in the first line.

You should be able to see your Bootcamp volume and files in it.

If that works, recreate your Hybrid MBR using the steps in the referenced link. Please post back here, if you have questions, or you want me to paste it here.

IT WORKED!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH LONER!!! 🙂

Ok just to give a summary of what I did.

So first get Testdisk and GPT disk from internet.

Then first use fdisk and Testdisk to find the codes.

For me, the speed of even a quick search is that of 10 hours roughly that always ends up stuck.

So I ended up doing a clean install for Yosemite. Then the Testdisk is quick as few minute to obtain the necessary codes for gdisk command.

Then I just followed the gdisk command to correct the disk.

Here are the gdisk steps and dd Command screenshots.

Then reboot and test using Finder,UtilityDisk, and Startup Disk.

Afterwards I used windows install CDs to repair the drive. And now Bootcamp is back on.

Hey, Loner! Thank you SO much for all your help with this issue. Wish I had the time to learn more about this. I feel completely clueless!

I'm having the same problem with my Windows partition not showing up after an OS X upgrade. Here's my diskutil list. Can you point me in the right direction?
