Getting error 'user not registered for online use' when getting track names on iTunes 12.0.1 on OSX Yosemite
Does anyone know how to get the track names without getting this error message?

I am having the same issues since upgrading to iTunes 12 and Yosemite....
I quit iTunes, deleted those two files (iTunes.plist and gracenote.plist in Finder>Go>Library>User>'user name'>Preferences) and reinstalled the newest version of iTunes, restarted the computer and then when I opened iTunes it worked, but I too had to click Options>Get Track Names. Works for me! Thanks!
Did you get a fix from Apple yet? I am having the same problem since upgrading. It works fine for other users on the same iMac but not me. Tried reinstalling iTunes and and installing all Mac updates to avail.
Hi everyone,
is there a solution for this bug yet? I upgraded to iTunes 12 yesterday and now when inserting CDs I get the error message "No Error" and CD titels/track names cannot be obtained. After a while the error message turns to "user not registered for online use" although my MacBook is registered and enabled. Tried to log in as guest user and everything in iTunes works fine. In a previous post I noticed that one should delete certain files. Unfotunately I cannot find them anywhere.
Running on Mountain Lion by the way, MacBook Pro mid 2013.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Try deleting the two .plist files mentioned above. That seems to be working for most people.
Hi Kid Kique,
I looked everywhere, but I cannot find those files. I tried under Finder > My MacBook > Library > Preferences. Unfortunately they are not located there.
Try this: 1) Open Finder window
2) in the top menu bar click the 'Go' heading, and a drop down menu will appear.
3) WHILE THAT GO MENU IS OPEN, hold down the OPTION (alt) key - 'Library' should appear in the drop down menu when you do so.
4) click library to open the library directory
5) In that directory should be a folder called 'user' but I can't find that folder today. Maybe things have changed in 12.0.1. If you find the User folder, click it and then click on your computers name and then click preferences. Files should be in there but I can't find that directory anymore. I'll keep looking.
Found them! In that library directory, click Preferences, then click ByHost - the files should be in that directory.
Thanks a million!!! It worked… I was confused with the Go heading as my computer's language is Italian and the translation for Go is a bit misleading. I am glad it works again and I would like to express my appreciation for your kind and detailed help!!!! Thanks again!
That's excellent! Where exactly (what directory) did you find those files?
There is a shortcut to put your 'user/home' folder in the side bar for quicker access, AND an option to permanently display the Library folder.
Where do I find the "go" heading in the finder? Every time I open it on my desktop, I see no such heading.
If you are using a mac, in the bottom launch bar there should be an icon for Finder. Click it. A window will open and at the very top of the screen (where the apple logo is and where it says File, Edit, View, etc etc) there should be a heading that says Go.
I found it in the exact library directory you described. Thanks for the tips, I will have a look into that.
I also have been having this problem. Thanks for all the effort Kid Kique. I followed all these great instructions, but now when I tried to get it to get the track names I get this error message
"Unable to connect to the CDDB server. The network cannot be reached.
Make sure your Internet connection is active and your network settings are correct, then try again."
All my other internet stuff is working fine and I can connect to the iTunes store. Any more idease
I have the very same problem (iMac27 late2013, Yosemite), it constantly says "User not registered for online use" while I am enabled: I have found "go" , Library, Preferences, ByHost, but I cannot find any gracenote.plist, only one iTunes.plist (precisely com.apple.iTunes.B9F9DDA...5A7.plist).
Any suggestions?
What should I do to let iTunes find my tracks again ???
Please help, thanks so mutch.!!!
I am having the same problem. I found the files mentioned "com.apple.iTunes.plist and com.apple.iTunes.gracenote" however, I found them under go>library>preferences. I didn't find them under ByHost. I deleted those and then re-installed iTunes like suggested in the thread above. It is still not getting the track names for my CD. It is now saying No Error. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
