cannot turn on iphone cellular calls error

When trying to activate iPhone Cellular Calls, I get the error "cannot turn on iphone cellular calls error, FaceTime and iCloud must be signed in to the same Apple ID to use iPhone cellular calls" I am signed onto the same accounts in both places and cannot figure out what is wrong. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you

Justhere's reply that's marked as solving the question didn't solve it for me. But I confirm that nicholasjs' reply fixed my issue:

I was able to fix it by picking 'Sign Out' under OSX Facetime preferences, then logging back in to my account. At this point a message appeared on my phone notifying me that my computer had logged in to facetime and everything worked.

Thanks for all the help in this forum. I had the same issues everyone is talking about.

I fixed my iPhone by simply "checking" the email address for my apple ID in the FaceTime numbers I could be reached at on my phone. That allowed the iPhone Cellular Calls switch to work.

Next I created the temporary account on my Macbook and logged into FaceTime. Then logged back into FaceTime on my account and the iPhone Cellular Calls option was available and working.

Lastly, on my iMac I tried the temporary user account without success. I logged out of my iCloud and FaceTime accounts on the iMac. Restarted the computer and logged back into iCloud and then Back into FaceTime and success!

Thanks to everyone for their handwork and diligence working to resolve this issue. Hopefully Apple will address this in a future update.

I had this exact problem on my iPhone 5s with IOS 8.1. I attempted to sign out of the FaceTime account and reconnect using my Apple ID, but each time it failed to connect to the FaceTime server. In order to get it to work I had to:

1) First sign out of the FaceTime account

2) Disable FaceTime via the off/on toggle

3) Then click "Use your Apple ID for FaceTime"

4) Enter your Apple ID / Password

5) Cick "Next" to verify

Once this completes, it automatically turned back on FaceTime with iPhone Celluar Calls enabled.

As a data point for others:

I was getting the same error message when I first set this up, and I was correctly logged into everything using the same Apple ID.

Thank you! Was having same problem, and this solved it. Weirdly the moment I logged back in on my Mac, the switch to toggle 'iPhone Mobile Calls' on my phone turned on.

Thanks for posting, mirth23.

Re: cannot turn on iphone cellular calls errorin response to nicholasjs | This solved my question

If you're trying to make calls from a mac, then you should make sure to enable FaceTime calls from your AppleID (email address) on both the mac and the iPhone. Don't uncheck your phone number, either. FaceTIme should be enabled on both devices with both your phone number and your AppleID.

For some reason, this is what had to be done for me to be able to make phone calls from my mac without receiving this message on my iPhone. I know it isn't ideal because we shouldn't have to enable FaceTime calls via AppleID, especially if we won't be using it with our AppleID, but this is what worked for me. Once you enable FaceTime calling from your AppleID on both the iPhone and your mac (while also keeping the calling enabled via your phone number), then try to turn on iPhone cellular calling on your iPhone. It should work, and then you can try to make a cellular call on your mac.

Some people may think that this isn't a fix because they might think I am talking about FaceTime audio calls. But I'm not. Try this and report back if you can.

This is truly bizarre and buggy but for some reason it worked! I added another email on my iPhone's Facetime preferences for "you can be reached at by facetime at" and it was like I unlocked a secret easter egg, I got a box on my computer that asked if I wanted to allow my iPhone to use my mac to place calls, then I got a box on my phone that said I was connected. Everything works now.

Makes me wonder if a preferences file was locked on my phone, or my Mac or both and until something got edited it was just frozen up or something. Anyway, so much for "it just works" but it does work after a lot of messing around.
