iOS 8.1 always in extended coverage

I updated to iOS 8.1 earlier today and ever since then I have been on "extended" coverage instead of verizon. I went to places that I go to every day and I never had verizon and it has been about 9 hours. I did a factory reset but that didn't work. How do I fix this? I don't want to be roaming all the time which is what it seems that it is.

I've talked to 3 different agents for Verizon and they have never heard of the problem. They even "searched" in their data base and said that it was not reported.

I've reset network settings, restored from iTunes, enabled LTE voice and data, EVERYTHING...

I made sure that the 3 feature codes were active on my line as well as had the agent RESYNC my phone to verizon. (I used to have alltel).

It STILL switches to extended quite a bit... I don't know what else there is to do except deal with it.

Please report back on the SIM card. That didn't work for me. I even tried switching the SIM's between my phone and my husband's. That didn't work either. I would have to convince Apple to replace my phone and given that Verizon thinks I'm in a "fringe" area (forget that I had 4-5 bars of LTE previously and have 5 bars for 3g), I'm thinking that may not be doable. There are so many people with problems after the 8.1 update, I'm thinking it is probably a software or PRL problem rather than hardware.

Yeah... If the SIM card doesn't work, I'm going to decline getting a new phone.

I, too, think it is a software issue since the 8.1 update. All 4 agents I have spoken too have not heard of the problem. Therefore, it must be a small percentage of users OR most people don't care about it and are not contacting them about it.

I don't think they are going to do anything major to address it until a large amount of people report the problem...

They checked my coverage area and said I was within range of 3 LTE towers, so no reason to switch to extended...which I knew that much anyway.

Well I just Got my New Phone from Verizon. And I kept it at the 7.1.2 update. Because my wife didn't update hers. And it said Verizon......So I decided to update to the 8.1.2 . Since Apple Rep said it was the "Hardware/Phone". Well All I have to say, is we as customers are getting the run around!!!!

I've been doing a little reading. And this is been going on for a while. So Apple really needs to work with Verizon to fix this BUG!!

I left a voice mail for a rep . I'm really curious what BS I'm going to get back.

Update, I just rebooted my phone and it suddenly says "Verizon" instead of "Extended" now! Also did a speed test and got 41/13 Mbps, so it's fast! Wohoo! It looks like there is a new PRL version 13067 that was downloaded to my phone. I'm crossing my fingers Verizon fixed the problem with the PRL update. I would recommend that everyone reboot their phone and wait a minute or two in hopes the PRL will update.
