In iTunes 12, I can't edit track numbers for podcasts.

I use the "track number" field to sort the episodes of my subscribed podcasts. Up until iTunes 11, this field was editable in the "Get info" pop-up of the episode. However, in iTunes 12 (Windows), this field is not available if the original audio file of the episode has an empty track number. It also cannot be accessed vie the "Add Field" drop-down, as the only available field in that list is "Comment". Does anyone know of a way how to re-enable the track# field by default, or at least have it show up on the "Add Field" list?

The way I found to do this for TV Programmes is as follows -

  1. Select the entire series you wish to add the track numbers to (select the first then shift to select the last)
  2. Right click, select Get Info
  3. Select the Options Tab and change media kind from TV Programme to Music Video - DO NOT SELECT OK.
  4. Select the Details Tab - you will now see you have the track and disc numbers available.
  5. Enter the amount of tracks in the series in the "of" field - for example - Track [blank] of [15]
  6. Select the Options Tab again and change the media kind back to TV Programme.
  7. Now Select OK
  8. Nothing will appear to have happened but if you select the 1st programme and Get Info, you will see you have the track number field available to edit.

It may be a bit of faff but doesn't take long to do, I prefer this method then messing around with code.

Track and disc numbers are also now missing from the Movies and TV Shows versions of Get Info. You might want to drop a line to iTunes Feedback with your reasons for wanting them back. In the meantime I've written two new scripts that may be useful: SetDiscNumber and SetTrackNumber. Thankfully it is still possible to set values via script, even if it is a somewhat clunky workaround.

I noticed this limitation in the new Get Info UI as well. Knowing about hidden shortcut to access the old dialogue box is useful, but they could easily remove that at any time. It would be good to be able to set track/disc numbers in the new UI. In the interim I had used an mp3 tag editor - http://www.mp3tag.de/en - to manually enter them. Quite tedious.

sorry, I should have logged back in. It was initially the shift key instruction that i thought hadn't worked. Closed the program when I'd done what I was doing, opened this afternoon and I had the track inputs available, so thanks for the tip and apologies for not updating. (didn't try your script thingy though, took one look and thought what the......).lol

thanks for the tips though.
